Had a guy in my local sportbike club go down while he and some friends were in Kentucky.

He lowsided mid-turn and went face-first into a guard rail. Wrapped his arm around the rail breaking 3 ribs, shattered shoulder, collarbone, bruised and bleeding left lung, and one eye is swollen shut. Cracked the front of his helmet in half and he's lucky to be alive. They said if he hadn't hit the guardrail he would have gone flying 200ft down a wooded hillside. The GSXR1k5 he was riding got mostly cosmetic damage, but holy ***** thats not something you want to have to ever go through.

Always wear your gear, especially a helmet! He'd probably have no face if he wasn't wearing his...

dang Kuhlka, that sucks man! Where in Kentucky was he riding? I was just there this weekend. Hope your friend heals up quickly and everything is ok. Sounds like his injuries are pretty serious. Indeed, a reminder to us all, always wear your gear!!! Send your friend my best wishes!

I was unfortunate enough to "wake up under a guardrail" one morning while on my way to work, and thanks to full leathers, boots, gloves, and a very nice (brand new) helmet, all I got was a broken thumb. The paramedics and emergency room people were surprised to see this, because they were so used to cleaning up "hamburger" in m/c accidents.

I always say...you can wash off sweat from wearing gear, but you can't wash off roadrash from not wearing it!

Be safe...

Yeah, I totalled my bike this weekend but my gear kept my injuries to one broken collar bone. The Shoei X-11 took a good face grind down the highway and did it's job. It may be what broke my collar bone but without it I might not be alive! :yayyy:

Kuhlka I hope your friend has a speedy recovery.

Dang Dr. Gallup sorry to hear about your accident too.

Just remember bikes are replaceable... people are not....
