May we all have a brief moment of silence please for my dearly beloved S3. She was just broken in and tastefully modded when a pickup truck ended her short life. We were in the left lane in traffic on Rt 276 going thru Brevard NC at 3 PM Sunday, on our way home from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Going about 35-40 MPH when the truck in the right lane decided to swerve sharply into the left lane. I hit the brakes hard but he came over so fast he took out the front wheel and deposited us on the pavement. I never saw Speedy again. Fortunately, the traffic behind didn't run me over but I knew there were broken bone(s). I just lay in the median waiting for the EMS and police who were there in minutes. The local Transylvania Community Hospital was only about a mile away and they cut off all my clothing and took x-rays. Turned out to be just a broken collar bone and some deep brusing. Speedy was not so lucky. Per the nice officer, the front wheel is broken, forks bent, bars gone, back wheel ground down, radiator and oil cooler ruptured, tank scratched and dented, cases scraped, etc. The insurance company has not officially declared her totalled but both the cop and EMS said she is gone.

man dr., sounds like you had a rough weekend. Really sorry to hear about your bike man, but also really glad to hear that you're alright besides the collar bone and bruises. Broken collar bones can suck. I've never had one, but I've known many people that have, and from what they've told me, I feel for ya brotha! Wish you a speedy recovery, and hope you get things sorted quickly and get ya another speedy!!!

Sorry to hear that but glad you're not injured worse. My wife and I rode that same route Wednesday but luckily no runins with trucks.

What happened to the bastard who hit you?!? Hope he got caught so he can buy you a new bike and pay your medical.

Hey, there is a bright side. At least you've got the 350z to keep you company and console you while you grieve and look for a new S3.

The truck driver stopped and the police charged him so there is no doubt about fault. The Z is a 6 speed so I still need a rental with an auto. While I do plan to get a new bike and most likely it will be another S3, I probably won't buy it for awhile. In about 5 weeks, just about the time I'm good and healed up, I go on vacation to the North Channel of Lake Huron for 3 weeks (great way to beat the SC heat). So I won't really be in the market until the middle of August or September.

dr,

Hope the collarbone isn't too bad. I destroyed mine last September and needed two surgeries to fix it back up. I happened to dislocate my shoulder at the same time, so that didn't help. I now set off metal detectors but the shoulder works again, just a bit sore all the time, but livable. I was out 61/2 months so hopefully you just have a run of the mill break and don't need surgery. Anway things could be worse for you and me, so its good to still be alive even if a little bruised & battered. Take care heal up and glad you are able to tell us the story............
