Starting tomorrow, I'm going on a quest to remove my Secondary Air Injection and even fool the ECU, if necessary, into thinking it was never there.

I verified, to my dismay, the other day that my bike is a california model S3, complete with that stupid carbon canister. My first step is going to remove that ***** canister and tidy up my hoses. Then I'm going to remove everything associated with the SAI and flip on Tuneboy to upload a non-SAI tune, hopefully removing the possibility of a fault appearing. If the trouble light still comes on with the non-SAI map, I'll post up and try to get resistance data on the wiring to bypass it.

I'll also be taking pics with my new E-500 digital SLR (wedding present woohoo!) and do a full write-up in this thread. Wish me luck!

Oh, and I'll also be disassembling my Roadracing fairing and making moulds to lay carbon fiber this week.

Heres some pics of my SAI block-off. The resistance of the solenoid (0n my '05) is ~22 ohms. I replaced the solenoid with a 22 ohm resistor tonight. I have yet to run it with the resistor so i dont know whether or not the ECU will be ok with that or not, find out in a day or so when the weather clears a bit.

Cool, post up your progress. It looks like the tubing on my 03 is a bit different, but I might do something similar or just block off the hole inside the airbox and remove the electronics for the valve.

Good luck with yours! If your resistor works I'll have that much easier a time with my own work.

Why would you want to remove your secondary air injection? What are you looking to do?

I'm honestly curious, as I don't know what effect that would have.

SAI is there to clean up the emissions. In my case and probably some of the other people not a priority, when this system produces an orchestral concerto of bangs and pops on the overrun.
There exists also a stong suspicion that it causes high exhaust temps leading to the latters discolouration.
The third benefit of its junking is making the bike lighter.
The fourth benefit is having less clutter under your tank making maintenance somewhat easier.

I beleive Oz bikes do not have this cr ap on their bikes.
For our friends down under:
1. Can you confirm if this is so?
2. Do you get pops & banfs on the overrun?
3. Does or did your exhaust discolour after a very short run?
4. Is your stock tune the one withour the Catalyst and SAI?

Kuhlka and TripleTrouble, please keep us posted.

Cool, I could do without the "pops and bangs," as for the discoloration, I kind of like it. :-D

I would also have one additional Oz SAI question: do you have a different valve cover on your bike altogether or do you still have the three reed valve openings (the ones where the three rubberhoses end on the pic at the beginning of this thread) on the valve cover, but they are blocked?

In the latter case I am sure there is a Triumph part number for the block off plates and thus they could also be used elsewhere.

Kuhlka,

How did you confirm that it was a CA emissions bike?

Yeah, it has both the SAI and carbon canister shown in the shop manual, listed as a 'california only' thing. Kinda pissed me off, but then I saw that there were no wires to the carbon canister.

Gonna take some pics and start chopping it out later today.

Kuhlka, I am watching with great interest. I have been
communicating with TuneBoy to see if their system can
work with my Compaq laptop. Looking for the write up
and super E-500 pictures.
