I will be buying tires soon and wanted to get your opinion on the rear... I've heard a few people recommending to go with a 180 instead of the 190 because a) it costs less and b) it'll turn in quicker...

Any downside to going with a 180 other than having the 190 looks bada**?

I thought the same when I needed replacement tires. After talking with different shops (non Triumph), all suggested staying with OEM size (not necessarily brand). Reason was that Triumph did all the R&D on the bike and determined the 190 was best suited overall. A few comments also made were if you put a 180 on the rim, it would actually flatten out the tire since the rim, from bead to bead, was wider than a normal rim that holds a 180 (I think S3 rim is 6" wide vs 5.5" for rims running 180). If you flatten the tire, I would think it'd be less responsive. Lastly, if you search around, you can find good prices on tires and there really isn't much, if any, difference in 180 and 190 prices.

You should be fine running a 180. The width of the S3 rim is the same as the Daytona 5.5". Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think the new models come with the 180 now.

The latest generation S3 still comes with a 190 on a 6" rim, at least according to the Triumph web site.

Hey guys,

I had heard the same thing about the 180 vs. 190 when i had my '99 daytona so i tried it, it really made it turn in much quicker in fact to quick for me i didn't like it so i went back to the 190. besides i liked the look of the meaty 190 rear tire anyway.I'm thinking of lacing up a 5.5 inch rim on my TBS so i can put at least a 180 on it.

A 5.5" rim on a TBS would look awsome!!

Pablo and Bshell are correct. I checked the website and sure enough the rear wheel is a 6". That being said I think I would stick with the 190 as well.

If you want, try a dunlop 208 -190 that is as wide as the old 207 180 . This a three way win - price, size and performance! If you're sensible 3500 miles on the back, perhaps the front going south twice - depending.....! Share & Enjoy!
