i rarely EVER rev past 4,000 rpm. this bike just has plenty of grunt down on the bottom end for city riding, it is unbelievable. i absolutely LOVE it.

i was going to pass a guy the other day who was driving in front of me. he was probably going 35 and the speed limit was 45. getting irritated, i wacked the throttle while still in 3rd gear. i revved it up to maybe 7,000 rpm? i can't really remember because it happened so fast...but my bike felt like it was literally about to lift off like a freakin jet fighter airplane! scary as hell. i let off the throttle and shifted up to 4th, then 5th. i looked back and that truck must have been at least 75 yards behind me. holy !#$%.

from that point on i realized this bike has plenty of power on the bottom end. anything past 4,000 rpm is for feeding the adrenaline.

This is obviously the fastest bike you have owned!

I see redline on every ride and bump the rev limiter if I shift too slow.

I am used to 145 HP on the rear tire and I can wring the S3's neck in a heartbeat.

Shes got good power but nothing scary....

I do 5,000 rpm at 80mph, so I see that all the time. Pulling wheelies I see the full rev range. Plenty of power, but I still want a supercharger for the 'fun' stuff.

+1 to Dobie.

I bang the sh!t out of the rev-limiter routinely.

Don't be so easy on your machine. It was meant to be ridden HARD!!!

I am with you tekmoe just driving back and forth to work 4000 is the norm, but it is great to be able to grab a handful even in 6th gear and go from 50 to 90 in a heart beat. :-D

welcome to the world of HP and Torque :-)
When I need to make a quick pass on my CBR, I usually downshift twice and gas it.. like you say, things happen awfully fast ! It makes me wonder what doing the same thing on a Hayabusa or Z14 must be like as they're more ferocious than my Bird... Even if you don't normally ride that way, it's probably good to know what that's like so that at least you'll know when NOT to do it...

I had a similar but opposite feeling the first time I grabbed a lot of brake on the S3.. whoa !!!
