don't know if i'm being overly sensitive, but the other night i noticed the engine was very hot to touch, (you wouldn't leave your hand there for long..)and stayed hot for a long time, long after the exhaust was stone cold.

i can't seem to remember if it normally got this warm!
i have no running problems, went for a 80 mile burst today all ok, but still hot.
no warning light coming on (always wary, cos a bulb may have just blown etc) and also noticed a small leak coming from the radiator hose that goes into the l/h side cylinder head.
it appeared to be coming from around the hose, so tightened the hose clip.(can't say for sure if this has cured it)

as for the fan, fairly certain i heard it come on through traffic, but not 100% (noisy cans and ear plugs- heh heh)

any quick way of checking fan? a bit nervous of letting the bike stand til it kicks in...in case it doesn't!!!!

otherwise a bit perplexed. hmmm.

disconnect the wires from the fan and run a direct feed from the battery, but before you do that check the fuse, hope its not the fan gone, cos its over £200 for a new one.
best of luck

My engine gets extremely hot in traffic, luckily most of my riding is on derestricted roads so the engine stays cool with the wind on the Rad, and I'm having to run without a fan till I can afford to spend out on a new one......missus says holiday comes first, and seeing as last years was cancelled to help pay for my bike, I can't argue.........or can I :-D

Don't worry about about the engine being hot, I love it when mine gets up to temperature before going round the block.

General consensus seems to dictate that it's normal for the S3 engine to run hot. The S3 rad cap is rated at 1.2 bar whereas the norm is .9 bar. Higher rad pressures equate to higher boiling points and makes the system more prone to leaks.

As with any liquid cooled engine keep an eye on the temp gauge and that little red light.
