Regarding 13's response to zmann's engine starting problems, which is happening to me occasionally, when checking the oil do you screw the dipstick in to check the oil or just place it in until it rests in the hole.Know this may sound stupid but every other bike i've had with a dipstick i have had to screw it in to check oil but when i picked my bike up last year i did all the usual and checked everything and found it had about 500 ml too much oil in it.Rang dealer to see about dipstick and they didn't seem to know so i stuck with the screwed in method. Is this correct?

Hey Bucket,

I believe the dipstick should be screwed all the way home to check the oil level. I would be more than a little worried about the dealer if he does not know the answer to that one.

I am generally happy with my dealer, but after both the first and second service the bike was given back to me with the chain too tight. Now I try not to take anything for granted.

The bike needs to be standing straight up with the dipstick fully seated. Not straight up on a rear stand. The easy way to do this is to remove the stick wipe and replace. Tip the bike up, set it down easily and check. I just lean over the left side and tip the bike up while I check it.
