I definitly need to buy another bike, my R3 can not follow any scotter on a corner.

I like the R3, it does all I wanted, it is a dragster on straigh lines, but then you need to stop.

At my 40` I still like to drive fast ...

So here comes my question, keep my Triumph only mind and go for the S3, or move to another brand like Ducati with his new Monster SR4s.

I like them both, but still havent drive them, so I am looking for opinions.

I prefer a machine that can go as fast as possible on corners, no top speed, nothing else, just touching the ground with my elbows !

Ducati has a lot of possible modifications to upgrade the standard bike, but Triumph offers also some good options.

Please advise about upgrades / modifications for the S3 to make it even better.

Best regards,

You don't think that the Rocket can corner? You're either crazy or you haven't ridden it correctly yet. Under the right rider, the Rocket CAN corner; and can keep up with sportbikes in most twisties.

But you want to know about the Speed Triple & the Monster S4Rs. I own a Speed Triple (2005), and I've ridden an S4Rs for about 6 hours during the course of one day.
Since I own a Sp3, I'd tell you that it's superior to the S4Rs. But if I weren't a Sp3 owner, and was test-riding both bikes back-to-back, I'd choose the S4Rs. They both have very similar power characteristics, and similar suspension feel. But the Ducati "fits" me better.

But I have to also mention: if you're truly looking for a PURE handling instrument, why look at the Speed Triple and the Monster S4Rs? As hard as it is for me to say it, for pure cornering prowess, you need to consider the current crop of Japanese sportbikes like the Yamaha R6 or the Suzuki GSX-R600. If you want to stay with Euro, at least look at Triumph's 675. Any of those will rail corners & twisties better than the Rocket, Speed Triple and the Monster S4Rs.

Despite all that, 99% of riders here cannot ride their sportbikes to anywhere NEAR their potential. Thusly, I have a LOT of fun picking off sportbikers while on my Rocket. The looks on their faces when we stop at the next lights are priceless. But most of the time, they just turn away sheepishly at the next turn. :-D

If price is an issue, stick with the S3 as the S4Rs is about 50% more expensive. Also, the service intervals will be twice as numerous with the S4Rs. If neither of those issues are a consideration, I'd say got for the S4Rs. I love Triumph's triples but the S4Rs is a bad mofo.

I have the foot rest so cornering can not be done at the real potential of the R3. You touch the floor as soon as you start going a little bit fast.

I have chosen to made the R3 a super touring bike more than a corner breaker. I have the windshield, the rear bags, the engine guards, etc, ...

Price is not a matter when you want to buy a hobbie, just quality, performance, and other issues are more important.

About the japan options or the new 675, there is no option for this type of bikes, since they are extrem in any aspect, and I am not looking for top speed or whatever, just fun on mountains and corners.

Triumph, Ducati and some others also give the user the oportunity to change things without loosing the warranty and some kind of factory support like new ECU programs based on the exhaust.

The Ducati calls me since it is not only the bike, it is all around it ( design, clothes, upgrades, options, ... ) what makes it so nice to me.

Also, the world famous problem of the S3 with the brakes and some other quality issues are making me afraid of buying one and start making it better to stay in front of the competitors.

It would be nice that Triumph comes with an upgraded model, loaded with top quality elements, accesories and options, to bring perfromance on top. At this moment I see them fighting for price only and this is a mistake.

You can buy a car, and under a unique model number, you can have different engines, brakes, interiors, etc. Why not in a bike ?

But I still like Triumph over all, and if they come with an S3 Plus or whatever they may call it, I will buy one for sure.

Ive always wanted a ducati. But i would not get the sr4. I would get the sr2(the air cooled one). Just because of maintenance. And i hear they have flaking rocker problems.

The valve adjustments on the 4 valved ducatis are expensive.

But the monster has style. Ive always wanted to say " I ride a Ducati" but thats probably the only advantage it has over the triumph sp3

I think that the best advide I could give you is to test-ride both. Back-to-back, if you can. Like I said, power performance and handling are kind of equivalent. But the bikes "FIT" me differently, especially at 7-tenths riding or harder. For me, the Duc fits better, but your experience may differ.

Ok, I've donned my flack jacket, here goes:

I'm in the same boat as thee/looking for a new bike...I recently road the 07 tuono, speed triple, and the s4rs...

The speed triple has more comfy ergos, could ride longer between breaks...awsome motor, about the same power as the s4rs...overall a great machine.

The s4rs, to me (my opinion only, this isn't a personal attack on anyone, I'm not bashing the triumph) is probably the best street bike I've ever ridden. The motor is intoxicating. It doesen't make more power than the triumph, but to me, it has gobs of personality.

Of course, it should be a better bike when you consider that it has full ohlins, brembo's and marchesini's, and cost's 50% more than the speed triple.

The speed triple is a very close second though...and, to me, the s4rs wasn't 50% better than the speed triple (thats the cost difference). Well, the front brake feel was a lot better, but thats another thread.

So, you really have to ride them both...When I was on the s4rs I had decided that it was the bike. That was until I hopped back on the speed triple. The speed triple convinced me that it was really the right bike, once costs of ownership were factored in. The speed triple is an amazingly fun bike and most people would probably be split 50/50 on which was better.

After you ride them both, let us know your impressions...Now, I gots to go get ready to watch Royce Gracie and Matt Hughes throw down on UFC 60..WOOHOOO!!

Steve
