Hi and apologies if this is already covered elsewhere (I did look):

I have done 250 miles and my new 06 S3 and have a problem with a slight lag between closed and small throttle openings, like when you might be on a long corner and want to go from a closed throttle to a neutral or slightly open ready to exit. I have adjusted all the slack out of the throttel cable to try and minimise it, but it's still there. I find I am pitched slightly forward as I brace for the power which doesn't come and then lurch back in my seat (ok only a bit), when the power comes on. It's a bit disconcerting on a bike that takes so much input through the bars, I keep thinking I will get caught napping and end up twisting over the wrong side of the road.

Has anyone posted ot even better corrected this?

thx

Mine's doing the same thing with 500 miles on it. It went to the dealer for the first service last weekend and told him I wanted him to look at this problem. It feels like a bad setup on the throttle position sensor, but I thought Id let them deal with a warranty issue. They downloaded an updated map and took it for a test ride and told me they didnt notice anything, but its still there as far as I can see. Im pretty sure it hasnt got anything to do with throttle cable adjustment. You can feel the throttle open and it momentarily bogs and stumbles until it gets to 3000 RPM or so. I cant imagine we're the only people seeing this problem. Anyone else?

Its a common prob. Get your mechanic to take out the lag at the main throttle body on your first service. if u do it to tight u will have problems starting the bike. tell him u adjusted the cable at the throttle end. their was a thread on this a couple of days ago, havent had enough coffee yet to go look for it, know it was under throttle lag. good luck. :-D

I have only had mine about a year and rode the bike for a while totally stock and i noticed it also. It may have to do the FI period, meaning there is just some lag and will never be as smooth as a carburated bike. Only my opinion.

However you can greatly improve this with an exhaust and the Triumph performance tune for the ECU.

The lag is a little disturbing during cornering, I need to fix mine. Too abrupt! I took out the slack from the throttle cable.

Have about 130 miles on a week old S3 with this same issue. Under light to medium acceleration from 2000 RPM I will feel a pretty good stumble right at about 2900 RPM. Give more or less throttle than that and I won't feel it.

Has anybody found a cure for this?

Just to update on my original post:

My issue was from a closed throttle; I took it back to the dealer for its first service and asked them to check it. The mechanic rode it after the service and pronounced it normal for a Speed Triple. On the ride back I noticed it was slightly better than normal and put that down to a re-tensioned chain taking the backlash out of the drivetrain.

Re-reading a copy of Superbike noticed this:

"Fuelling isn't perfect with a slight lag from a closed throttle".

So there you go. It looks like it is normal. Fuelling probably would benefit from a re-map/PCommander.

I reckon you can minimise it by taking up slack on the throttle cables/chain even getting the handlebars spot on and not having too much pitching backwards and forwards from the suspension. But the real solution is electronic IMHO.

PS or maybe the TORS with the off-road re-map? Anyone done this and noticed a difference from throttle response?

I recently read an article about quite a few 06 fuel injected bikes (not just Triumphs) having problems with glitchy power delivery. Something to do with new emission laws and leaning the mixture off or something. Maybe Triumph is doing this?
