Readin cheapbastard's post about the flyscreen got me to thinkin' (which is almost always a bad idea).
I've seen lots of posts about bike modification here. Most are innocuous deviations - exhaust, mirrors, a fender bob. All very nice and offered in the spirit of contributing to the performance or aesthetic appeal by taking a less-is-more approach wholly in keeping with the tenets of Our Faith.
But when the talk turns to bodywork, I cringe!
It is a slippery slope, my friends, a seemingly harmless heresy which can only lead down the path to perdition.
Gather around, and heed my tale, young ones...
Being older than most rocks, I can remember the daze of the UJM. These were perfectly serviceable vehicles, but pretty soon people wanted things like, oh... wind protection. So they added a windshield or even a full fairing (how many of us have toiled in a valiant attempt to exorcise the demon Vetter Windjammer from some unfortunate victim whose owner gave in to his or her own selfish urge for personal comfort). Then they wanted to be able to carry items that wouldn't fit in their pockets, so they added luggage. Next thing you know, you get this:
And then the factories get involved and you get this...
or if you persist in such deviant practices, you wind up with something like this:

Please - it's a NAKED bike. Let's keep 'em that way!
