Wonder if anyone can help me...
I am getting the occasional knocking sound from the top yoke area of my forks, can't be sure whether I am getting it when I go over a sudden bump or whether it's when I go over a dip as by the time I look down it's too late :-)

Anyone got any ideas, a mate suggested that the top steering race may need tightening?

I originally thought it may be from the forks bottoming out/compressing...

Cheers in advance...

Sounds like your mate is right! Check your headstock bearing, they do need tightening from time to time. One good way to check it is somehow have the front end lifted(with the forks being free), and try to push the forks forward, and then try to pull back towards you. If you have much movement at all, you need to get that tightened up. Hope this helps.

Are your brake hoses tightened in the clamps?
