No sort of....

If it is a brand new bike then no, unless you know someone at the DMV.

If you import a used bike with over 7,000 miles then you can register it. I know someone who bought a new Harley in Texas rode it for 7,000 miles then went ahead and registered it. Of course he risked getting his bike impounded and a ton of fees.

Tango,

I know the 955's are not legal in all states, not sure about the new 1050's. You can check by going down to the dealer and looking for an emissions sticker that specifically says California compliant. If it's not there, the bike cannot be registered in California except for two situations.

1. You move to California, having purchased the bike elsewhere. If less than than 7500 miles on it, you may need to pay an air emissions penalty but at least you can register it.

2. You are a California resident and purchase the bike out of state with at least 7500 miles on it at time of purchase. Riding it back to California from point of purchase won't count. Sales document must say 7500+ on it.

I've sucessfully done the latter. If you want to do the former, you should re-confirm it.

Yes am aware of that part of the CA program.
I am assuming then that Triumph makes a special version for sale in CA that is specially prepared to meet CARB specifications.

I looked at a couple of out-of-state speed triples, and found out that, like Jackel said, they're definitely not CA conforming. It seems like they often cost less from dealerships in various parts of the country, but if you buy one of the out of state bikes and try to register it here you'll likely get VERY frustrated.

Triumph does make bikes for the CARB requirements. For the 955's, California bikes had carbon canisters for evaporative control and air re-injection. 49-state bikes did not have this.

Thanks guys, where is the sticker located? If it is in the tripletree close to the VIN - well on my bike it is black and has 2 rivets there holding nothing!

It isn't located on the sticker by the T-Tree. Just checked my 06. I bought it in CA and had it registered by the dealer. It isn't anywhere where it is easily noticed and I will not have to get it smog inspected (like I do with my four other vehicles!) so it shouldn't matter that much. I do not know about the regs for used bikes.

check the CA DMV site for details - it is pretty easy to navigate or you might want to check with one of the dealers in SoCal.

Good Luck!
