I have a new S3 and noticed the lack of wheel weights on the rims. Not that I am complaining, no vibration or wobbles just curious if anyone else has them from the start. Also how many here have gone through a set of Powers and replaced them with the same stock setup and needed weights?
I only have about 600 miles on the bike so tires are a ways off yet but I am curious if you can get away with out having weights by running the Pilot Powers.
Care to weigh in?

I had weights from the factory I think? wait a minute, I know I did on the front, but can't remember the rear. But, I put a fresh set on about 2000 miles ago, and they did put weights on front and rear. So don't necessarily think you won't have to balance them with Pilot Powers!

Depends on the wheel you have, how good the balance is. And then on the guy mounting the tyre that he at least tries to get the lightest point on the tyre to line up with the heaviest point on the wheel.

But I would say as no two wheels are balanced exactly the same and the tyres are the same, then it would be quite a miracle if different individual tyres would also be balanced exactly the same.

I had a few weights from the factory and have had a few on subsequent tyre changes also. Sometimes more, sometimes less, aroung 15g if balanced only vertically and 15g+30g on the opposite edges if balanced vertically+horizontally.

I had new tires put on, and have weight in the front, but the rear was off 1/2 a gram. Not enough for adding weight. As long as they line up the dots to the valve stem.

Yea, sometimes you can balance a tire w/ out weights.

Here's a weight tip to: I like silver, but not on my black rims. If you have black rims but run out of black weights, spray silver weights w/ flat black epoxy spray paint. Break weights apart to spray all sides. Do 4 or 5 quick flash coats so it's even. It takes about 15 minutes to tack (good enough to handle).

If having someone change tires, take paint w/ you. Request black weights. If they're out, ask for silver right away. Let installer know your gonna just spray black (on piece of cardboard outside), it'll take fifteen minutes and request they wait to use black. Your rims will smile for it.

I know a guy whose been changing tires forever and never thought of this...
