Hi. I've got a high level carbon can on my s3 (a Triumph own aftermarket exhaust). There is a small plate (about 3 inch by 2 inch, but in full view) welded to the pipe which has been stamped with, amongst other things "tampering being against Federal law" (not a problem in the uk) and "NOT FOR ROAD USE"
Any ideas as to what this plate is made of (stainless steel?), and therefore the possibility to "buff" the words off, without the whole thing going rusty. Any other ideas also gratefully received.
Cheers,

DoctorW. :chug:

To check if its stainless just use a magnet.

If the magnet sticks, its not stainless just plated.

If the magnet drop of, its stainless steel.

I had the same kind of deal on the Mistral cans I had on my Guzzi LeMans. The plates were rivited on and I didn't want to take them off and leave the holes, so I just took a grinder to it (gently) and it looked fine afterwards.
