Re: the Macchina Nera

"The engine is a full race Ducati Testastretta 998R engine rated at 180hp, housed in a bike that weighs just 297lbs."

Titanium everything. 55.5inch wheelbase.

Literally one of a kind.

I'd be pretty curious what you guys would put in a garage that might be almost attainable. For example:

'06 BMW R1200GS (wierd and mean and goes anywhere)
'06 Speed Triple (wierd and mean to the uninitiated)
'76 Honda CB400F (probably the nicest vintage bike ever)
'85 Yamaha RZ350 (modern forks/swingarm/rubber, loud pipes)
'74 BMW R90S (for vintage events 2 states away)

Notable others would include an RD400, HD XLCR, and (cost no object) a Honda RC166. A Ducati Sport 1000 might be able to replace the S3, but I can't say that here now can I? That and it costs 50% more.

Ok, so the Macchia Nera is a stretch...but attainable rides?
That's an easy one:

New Norton Commando 961

Of course cost, and availability, are no object. Otherwise there would be no point to this thread. If we could afford it, we'd all have a warehouse full of cool bikes.

The Macchia Nera is pretty cool, and I do like the Cagiva. However the Y2K is just a pointless way for Jay Leno to blow his excess cash. It's a highway missle with a helicopter engine and really bad handling, and it's only purpose is to show that it can be done.

If we're going to add more though I get to as well.

6) Yamaha RZ500
7) Scott Flying Squirrel
8) Norton Rotary NRS 588
9) Kawasaki H1 Mach III
10) A Douglas Dragonfly, just because that's my name.

In no particular order....

1. BMW R90S
2. HD Softtail Duece
3. Norton Commando
4. Honda 400F Supersport
5. Moto Guzzi V-11 Sport

And of course, my S-3

The Dodge Tomahawk is fine if you enjoy expensive but useless toys (or at best it could be described as art) but as a motorcycle (ignoring it has 4 wheels for a start) it is a complete failure.

The 4 wheel design is flawed and it can barely be driven safely in a straight line. Small irregularities in road surface cause it to become completely unstable. Maybe not that surprising as it was designed by a bunch of auto engineers as a publicity stunt to promote the Viper V-10 engine.

As an engineer and motorcyclist I find the thing utterly embarrassing.
