Engine Light just came on.

What are the most common causes for an engine light to come on? I had just a touch of coolant leak out, but it isn't running hot. I figured it was the overflow, but it isn't confidence inspiring. The closest dealer is about 70 miles away. I'd like to take care of it myself. Any ideas on what I should check?

Check your battery connections...

Short electrical ground, loose cables, etc is the most common cause. Otherwise, listen for strange noises and take it into the dealer if you can't readily see the cause. Also, cycling the motor up to operating temp then off a few times generally clears a fault if it is just a fluke.

Thanks. It turns out it was nothing. After a few cycles it went off. I'm glad it was nothing. I have to travel a distance to get to a mechanic.
