hey guys,
i'm in vancouver bc canada, and i'm about to buy a 2000 speed triple (black) from a private seller. is there anything i should be looking out for? any recall defects i should spot?
i'm paying 7500 CDN for it which is about 6,762.53 USD. is that a fair price?

help!

If it has Zero miles, it may be worth that much. You can find good used 2000's for 3-5,000 US with fairly low mileage. I would shop around. And the recalls for that year are the clutch cable and the fuel fittings.

shoot... so i'm paying way too much?
the guy i'm buying off of collects motorcycles, and he seems to know a lot about the market and he assumes its worth this much.
i don't want to pay that much, but i'm in canada and there are maybe a handful of triples here of that year.

what should i do?

My parents live in Canada; my father is thinking of buying a used bike in the US and importing it to Canada. As I understand it, as long as a bike complies with Canadian standards for lights, emissions, etc., it may be brought into Canada with no modifications or fees (except the same taxes and fees you pay to buy and register a Canadian bike). Most bikes made for the US market meet the Canadian standards, but you should check with the Canadian government for specific years and models.

Maveric, if it's in great shape, and comes with any extras like flyscreen, aftermarket pipe, etc., have it looked at and appraised by a dealer, and see what they come up with. I have an '01, and I don't think I'd sell it for less than 5 G with all the aftermarket stuff I've added. Maybe it's worth it? Good Luck!

Way TOO much , I just bought an 2003 with 614 miles for 6000 US dollars. That is definetely not a fair price especially considering the year. Shame on that seller!

I just paid $4300 for an 01' with 2400 miles. I almost bit on one that was too highly priced as well. I would suggest scouring the internet and seeing what you can find. I took me a while to find the one I did, but it was well worth the hunt. Not to mention that the hunt was half the fun. Listne to the people on this site. If it weren't for them, I would have made the same mistake of paying too much on one with 0 miles. There is always one out there. Good Luck!

It also depends on what part of the country your in, I've noticed $500-$1000 price differences between regions. Up here in the NorthWest they get pretty good money for Triumphs, Ducatis.
