Hi all
I recently bought a new 2004 (0 km) speed triple from a dealer.
Having owned Hondas and vrods in the past , I notice that the speed triples engine is pretty noisy.
The thing that concerns me is the following.
with 650km (break in oil present) the engine has a tapping or pinging noise. I use high octane fuel so it is not that. any ideas? can it be that it has the break in oil in? or is that jsut hte sound of the engine.

Thank you

Spacecom answered your question where you posted it in the Tiger forum about as well as any of us here could. From the description, there's no way to know whether it's a fuel injector or valve you're hearing, or whether it's problematic or normal. As he said, the 955s are not particularly quiet engines. You're very close to your first service, so unless the noise just developed suddenly and/or is getting worse, be sure your oil level is OK for now and plan on having your dealer check the sound then.

hope nothing is wrong, zigzag. But good thing is, you should be under warranty if something is wrong.

don't worry there is nothing wrong, my 05 sounds like a dam pinball loose in the engine as well as exhaust sounds from the header. I was told these engines are noisy as heck and they don't have fairings to muffle any sound as well. just get a pipe and ride it hard don't worry about the sounds.

I don't consider mine extremely noisey. It is definately noisier than my R1, but it's not that bad. You may be right jnicosia, I just don't pay it that much attention. :-D

Dude, ride an SV1000 and you'll be bitching a lot more about engine noise. Its nearly unbearable at certain RPMs. The stupid chainsaw noise reverbs in your helmet so bad. No such problem with the S3. Although, engine noise is still noisier than IL4's.

You'll notice the 'tickity tickity tickity' noise of the motor until you get used to it. Just keep track of anything out of the ordinary and take it to the dealer to be checked out if you're really nervous or experience performance issues. I redline the $#!7 out of my bike at times and its still running strong after 13k miles of such abuse.
