Hi Guys,

I have bought a Paddock Stand for my S306. I must say that it is very unstable. The stand is made for the Triple but there is only a small pin going into the rear wheel. Am I doing something wrong?

hey Hood,

Is the pin a snug fit in the rear axle. Some other SSA bikes such as Ducatis have different diameter axles and use a smaller diameter pin. I think the pin should be 27mm diameter........I just went out and checked mine.....27mm is correct. Anything smaller and the bike would feel unstable on the stand.

Hi Legman,

I will have th check what the diameter is. It looks bigger in the beginning of the pin but it gets small at the end. You might be right that it is actually to small. It is so unstable that it is tricky taking the rear wheel off!

I am going to check this evening!

I don't understand the taper in the pin your describing. What brand stand do you have? My pitbull stand doesn't have a taper in the pin. It does come with 2 pins, one for the hub side, and one for the wheel side. Check that out, sounds like someone sold you the wrong one or something.

I think the BikeLift rear stand I have also has a slightly tapered pin that matches the taper in the rear axel. But even with the taper there is no way the bike is going anywhere as the pin is such a tight fit and the bike itself is applying lever force to the pin.

I would have to agree with the others: you have the pin for some other 1 sided bike on your stand. The MV, Ducati, Honda have smaller dia holes in the rear axel.

I bought a K & L stand that only came with an axel pin for a Ducati that was 26mm O.D. The S3 was unstable and almost fell off the stand after two wheel rotations. I measured the axel and had a pin made from a machine shop. It is a straight pin, 120mm long by 28mm in diameter with no shoulders. The big problem was the axel itself. The inside of the axel is uneven with ridges that had to be reamed out smooth. The mechinist did this with a sanding strap (medium grit) mounted on a drill bit. The pin fits tight. Now the wheel can be turned indefinitely without the bike falling off the stand.

Sounds like you dealer thought Triumph and Ducati stands are the same. The Triumph stand has a larger pin.

I have been back to the dealers and they have confirmed that the stand is a bit wobbly! They have ordered a new one! Hope that this time they have got it right!

Thanks for your input guys!
