I am new to the forums and I have a question. I am about to buy a 2001 S3 with 3 miles on it from a dealership. The bike hasn't ever been prepped. This sounds like a great deal on the surface, but I am concerned that it has been sitting for this long without being started or run. The dealer told me that the warranty will still be valid because the bike has never been registered and that Triumph treats it just like a current bike once its registered. I question his honesty. Any help would be appreciated. I thought about calling another dealer to fact check, but I am not sure if I can trust a dealer. I was hoping someone here might know the answer or know How I can get it. A second question is this: The price is $6400. Would anyone be able to tell me if this sounds like a good deal? Any help is appreciated and thanks for taking the time to read this.

Sounds correct, if you would be the first owner of this bike and it has never left the showroom before. The warranty starts running from the day the bike first hits the streets/gets an owner.

Don't know about the engine though, if it has never even been turned over during 5 years. Gaskets dried up? Oil turned to gunk? Bearings/cams/whatever sitting without oil for 5 years?

Can you get the dealer to prep the bike and take it out for a weekend or so for a test drive? For sure it will need all the fluids replaced and fuel system flushed at the minimum, but hard to say about the engine innards without opening the thing up. I am no expert on the subject as all my bikes have got the monthly ridearound in the garage even during hibernation season.

This sounds like a bad deal; you shouldn't touch it. That's my best advice, and I'm totally serious.

Now, tell me where it is.

Nice. I'll let you know right after I take delivery ha ha ha. I really am curious if the price is right as well. The huy doesn't want to move from it. He originally said $6999 and dropped to $6499 (So actually it's $6500) without being prompted. He doesn't want to throw anything in with it at that price either. But the fact that it's sitting and I am unsure about the warranty is my biggest concern.

Wth? I bought my 03 for like $7000 brand new (before tax and financing) back in october of 2004. This guy wants $6500 for a bike that has not only been sitting unmaintained for 5 years, but is two models old? I'd be very wary of that bike unless he can prove everything on it is in perfect condition and that they'll honor ANY warranty issues that pop up, especially if they're issues due to the bike having sat for 5 years.

The blue book retail value is about $5400 for a 2001 and since it's new (so to speak), I think $6000 would be a fair offer. I think the warranty would be in effect due to you are the first owner.

Like Kuhlkua said the problem would be sitting for five years.

If they are willing to stand behind the bike (get something in writting) I probablly would get it if I really want it.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies thus far. One more issue has popped in my head. They are a valid business, BUT...They are no longer a Triumph dealer. They WERE a few years ago, but they are not now. Will this cause any problems with the warrany? My friend is thinking about buying a 99 Daytona with 2500 on it from them too. He's at $5900 on that. It was ridden by the guy that owns the place and he said it was never registered. I know this is a bunch of questions now, but I'd like to get the bike asap. I just don't want to make a mistake. Thanks again everyone!

Wouldn't do it... You can get a pristine, low mileage 03 or 04 for the same money. JMHO
I've seen long term leftovers from other dealers and they do carry a full factory warrenty. Wouldn't think the selling dealer would be able to process the paperwork though... If you decide to go through with it, I'd call Triumph of America and verify the Warrenty issue first..
