Just got a new 675 and the brakes have gone spongy after less than 1000 miles. I know the 05 Speed trip and Sprint had similar problems. Anyone know of a fix?

Yup. Do a search. Apparently there's a fix out, but most Triumph dealers act like they've never heard about it.

Congrats on the new bike, though. How do you like it?

That's a shame. I just test drove the 675 and it seemed like the spongey brake issue had been addressed. It felt worlds better than my S3. Maybe it take >300 miles to manifest.
As gr8shandini mentioned, the dealership has played(?) dumb the three times I've asked about issue. The lever on my S3 touches the grip, even after THEY bled the system...

They have bled my brakes 3 times, changed the fluid to higher temp fluid, and also Triumph told the dealer to do a seals and various other parts change, but on the hush hush. It is clealy an issue, but Triumph don't know what it is. They are now talking about changing the master cylinder too. After bleeding, they are good for a month or so. If they keep doing it on warranty, then I will let the keep doing it.

The master cylinder isn't the problem. I swapped out to the 5/8mc from skyking (same brand as stock just bigger), and I still occasionally get mushy brakes. I'm thinking it is an issue with Nissin's calipers on these bikes. Every fix I've heard of that actually works, both long term and short, has been to the calipers.

Absolutely correct. The fact the the 675 is having the same problems proves this: it comes with an entirely different Nissin Radial master cylinder.

I want Brembo radial calipers. Let's see how much change I have in my pocket...

mine are spongy. i was gonna bleed um myself but if the warranty covers it, i guess i'll let a shop do it. maybe.

didn't help me either when sunday this $%&#@! put his left blinker on, got over to the left, and as i was about to go around him he turned right out of nowhere!!!!! i braked hard, locked up the rear as it slid out to my right, and stopped about a foot away from him.

brilliant. lived to tell the tail. idiot.

Not to drag out the dead horse and beat it some more but...

Has anybody come up with a permanent fix for the stock brakes? Something that lasts for a couple thousand or more miles?

I think I've followed most of the threads and tried the obvious - zip tie/velcro the brake handle, pull the calipers and clean/grease the pistons, 'exercise' the seals, and bleeding. Nothing seem to last more than about 800 miles at the most.

I guess I'm frustrated that the brakes don't have the same feel after a 150-200 mile ride as they did at the start.

I see you're in the PNW, have you tried the opinions of any dealers in the area? I90 or Cyclebarn?

Well, my brakes have been upgraded but they are spongy again. The problem comes when the brakes get hot, from riding or just standing in the sun. The grap point of the brakes moves over 30mm closer to the handle bars. The weird thing is the next morning the brakes are cold en they feel rock solid again. Waiting for the sun......... spongy, overnight rock solid.

[edit]

Going to get them bled again today, This is hopefully the last time. Hopefully this will be the last time I have to return for the brakes. If the brakes feel spongy again, they can take the NISSIN ***** off and replace it with Brembo or Beringer.

And don't think I'm going to pay for it!!!!!! I paid 13000 euro, 16600 Dollar. I expect to get a quality product and not a bike without brakes.
