I'm surprised no one has posted with this issue yet because I had it on BOTH my S3's, an '03 and '05. The issue is a sort of pulsing, not in the lever but the bike is lurchy when slowing down. It is very low speed (<15) and light braking, like coming to a stop sign. In both cases it developed somewhere between 3k and 5k miles. It is not noticable at higher speeds during normal braking. It is more of an annoyance but it is VERY annoying. I took the '03 to the dealer and of coarse 'the brakes are great!' they (service manager and owner/salesman, who both own and ride S3's) claim they dont feel anything. The service manager thought I might be feeling loose head bearings (I knew that wasn't it, but I humored him). So he tightened them and they were too tight and braking was still the same so I had him loosen them back up. I dont think its the rotors because lever feeling is fine. I am very easy on brakes (easier than most).

wondering if anyone else experiences this.

BTW, my brakes are NOT spongey at all.

Thanks,
Chris

I have the same problem and have had it from day one. When i went in for the 500 mile check up it was raining and the dealer said they could find no problems. They said it could be the pads seating in so i said i would wait and see what happened. Still have the problem just like you at low speeds and it is really noticeable on an incline ( leaving the parking garage at work ) they also squeal. It almost feels like some thing is loose in the calipers unless you really grab a hand full of brakes.

I also try to be light on the brakes and drive with the gas and the gears.

Stuck floater staples (what are these called in english?) on the brake discs maybe?

Easy to check that they all have enough play to rotate and move freely, so the discs can float freely.

Next guess would be warped disc(s) or unevenly worn front tyre.
