So, I've been gone for a bit and I'm not seeing any new posts about the sub-par front brakes on the '05+ S3... was there a consensus reached on a fix or we just waiting for Triumph to own up?

Just clean them once a month and no problem.

mine are ok after the fix was done. still not a patch on the brembo set up on my previous bike and the initial response from triumph was an insult.

one of the big bike mags had one as a test bike and the guy was complaining about the front brake. triumph quickly replaced the entire front system.
amazing what theyll do if your important enough.

I guess I missed the thread about the bad brakes - my '06 stopped so hard with 2 finger-pressure that I pulled a small and unexpected stoppie when a grocery getter pulled out in front of me - I figure that's pretty good performance.

The brakes on the 1050 are great. In fact, Motorcycle Consumer News recorded their shortest ever 60 to 0 stop on a new Speed Triple. The problem all lies in the "feel". Everybody hates it. That's why there isn't an official fix. Triumphs bottom line: "They're supposed to feel that way. They're progressive brakes." Translation: "We still really don't know what's wrong with these puppies, so do what you can to placate the masses."

Many of the "Fixes" work, but most of them are temporary. People are reporting good results with replacing the master cylinder, but the only factory approved fix is to clean and lube the calipers. What the duck?

I'm sacrificing a chicken at the dark of the moon. Should fix everything.

Yep, I thought so.... While I haven't had problems stopping, being able to easily pull the brake lever all the way to grip is just plain wrong.

agreeeeeed!

i talked to the guys at munroe and took the bike down just so they could feel it personally. they are fixing the problem saturday for me.

note: the people at munroe motors (san francisco) are top notch people. no attitudes, no BS. i'll buy my next bike from them hands down. (gift your mechanics / shop good beers and you'll develop great relationships with awesome service)

Come on guys... there is NO way you are pulling your handle all the way to the bar when you are moving. Unless, perhaps you have the handle set inward fully. Even then I can't believe the handle comes all the way to the bar while actually moving. There is NO way my handle is even coming close to the bar out in the real world. Could I pull it all the way in standing still? Probably... Ain't happinin' out on the road or track.

Geof3, you're right... it doesn't happen while in motion, only while the bike is stopped. That being said, my 6,000.00 2001 Bandit with only steelbraided lines as an upgrade won't even come close to the grip. My '92 Nighthawk and my '79 Yamie triple also feel firmer. I would think that a bike that cost almost twice as much would perform as well if not better. While I haven't had any close calls on the S3 due to the brakes, compared to my Bandit's system, they do not inspire confidence.
