Hello all. I have a black '06 S3. I put aftermarket front turn signals on it the day after I bought it. It was a simple swap, using the stock wires. Then I installed an integral tail light, which uses a factory connector for the tail light and has two hot wires for the turn signals, but no grounds (not needed, apparently). I wired it all up and. . .I keep popping ignition fuses. This thing has like 80 miles on the clock. So I checked the wiring, and the only X-factor is the non-use of the factory grounds from the stock rear turnsignals (they are taped off). Any thoughts on the problem? The weird thing is that I rode it for an hour or so before the fuse started popping. Replaced it, rode it for another half hour, and then it started popping again. The dealer is looking at it but they are mystified. . .

Second, my clutch cable is already messed up! I went to grab the clutch and it felt kind of sticky and jerky. I haven't been riding like a hooligan, still breaking it in. So the dealer has to replace the cable. Any other experiences with early clutch cable failure? It is routed in the stock position, no kinks, cuts in the cable, nothing.

Finally, is there a method to lower the bike a few inches? I have the spring compression down low, but I would like the bike about 2 inches lower. I guess I would need a new rear shock, right? Ay suggestions?

Thanks for reading my novel!

Hey mate,

Intermittent electrical problems can take ages to find. You could swap your front indicators back to original, go for a ride and see if the fuses still pop. If they still pop, put the original tail lights back on and see if the problem is still there.

If you can track the cause down to one end of the bike it will make it easier to find the root cause of the problem.

Also, I recall someone on this forum (or t595.net) having a wiring harness issue on a new S3 so dont rule this out either.

Cheers,
bundo

As for the ride height....................I lowered my "static" setting on the rear shock approx 1 in. Requires a little finese to get into the spanners on top of the rear shock but it is doable. I had help from an excellent mech, but it is possible to do on your own. Just watch out for your knuckles getting beatin up!!!!

I am no electrical expert but I am quite sure you need to have that integrated tail light grounded properly or you will continue to blow fuses. I also have a tail light with signals built in, but it was a direct plug-n-play, just had to wire up the signal lights to a hot wire. Not sure if this is the one you have. Anyway make sure each light/signal is grounded properly..................Goodluck............

If you have the 'Clear Alternatives' integrated tail light unit, perform a search on prior posts. Some of us (myself included) got it and the Flasher relay and we all experienced the fuse blowing. I didnt read that you specified the LED flasher relay in your message so I'm not certain if this is pointing you on the right path but I didnt pursue it further after my initial attempt over the winter, I'm not certain if any of the other folks who gave it a try found a solution but it's worth a search to see what happened.

As I recall there was a particularly helpful and very knowledgable person there who was a phenominal help in getting some of us less electically inclined people educated as to the finer points of this subject. Give it a search, at best you can get the username of the guy I'm at a loss remembering the name of currently and send him a PM or you can revive the thread/subject as I'm sure others will be interested and will chime in.

good luck

The clutch cable on my '97 Daytona rubbed through the wiring harness at the front, nearly welding the cable to the jacket.
Popped fuse too, of course.
