I've been on a 5 year break from riding, sold my bike when I got married had a kid and bought a house. Now the wife, seeing how depressed I get when a bike shreaks by, tells me to go buy one. My first street bike was '97 CBR F3 and was a handfull although I've ridden offroad most my life. By the time I sold it 4 years and 20K miles later I could pretty much ride that thing to its limits. So the deal is I've got 8500 bucks burning a hole and I've narrowed it down to a Ducati S2R or a S3 1050. I'm not looking to set the world on fire but the S3 is so much more bike than the S2r for the same money (dealers around here are selling the S3 for 1500 off sticker). Problem is, the S3 kinda scares me from some of the reviews I've read. It's more bike than what I'm looking for but I'm afraid I'll be bored with the Duc after a year. I'm 6'2" and 190 making the Duc kinda tight but nothing the aftermarket won't solve. Any advice? I'm just looking for the push. Are these things the total animals they're made out to be?

Stack,

My S3 was the first bike for me for...well, longer than 4 years. And my previous bikes weren't nearly what your CBR was. No need to be scared about it. It's as much bike as you want it to be. Make it scream or just tour it around. By the way, I'm the same hight and weight as you.

Never ridden an S2R, but I love my S3; it is a very controllable and agile MC, that's got afterburners when you need them. You will not be disappointed.

Stack,

I see you have ridden off road, just think of an S3 as sort of a dual sport with a big torquey engine, thats why I want one. That dealer near you has the lowest prices advertised for S3s in the US. I am tempted to grab a trailer and head down there as soon I sell this Vmax (also a *****cat with a bad reputation).

Go out and demo some bikes! Do it! You will love the S3, you will be smiling all the time!

I figured I'd get unbiased opinions here. The dealer Chattanooga, TN has the '06 for 8883.00 or an '05 for 8483.00.

I have both a Ducati and S3, plus a few others.
The S3 is the most flexible of the group and others I have
ridden at Bike WEEK.

( Get the BLACK one---they do every thing you want and nothing you don't

The S3 can be a kitten... It can also be an animal... If you can control your throttle hand you'll be good to go at any time. The S3 is one SWEET ride!!! You'll never regret it.
