I am in the middle of a shock replacement. Dissconnecting the
fuel hose left me with the entire fitting on the hose
and just the bare pipe on the tank. I believe the connector
should separate into two pieces. However, can I just
reinstall the connector to the pipe without having a fuel leak
later? ( I siphoned the tank before I took off the connector
so the experiance was not a "gas".)

My connector stayed on the rubber pipe when I removed the tank. Just make sure it clicks back into position and won't come out if you pull it.

THIS IS A QUICK CONNECT. THAT IS THE WAY IS IS SUPPOSED TO COME OFF. AS AVI8OR SAID MAKE SURE IS CLICKS BACK ON. THERE IS A BUTTON ON IT TO PUSH WHEN YOU PULL IT OFF, I HOPE YOU DIDN'T JUST PULL IT HARD, YOU MIGHT HAVE DAMAGED IT. I HAVE HAD MINE OFF A BUNCH AND NO PROBLEMS.

oops, sorry about the all caps!

good luck,
Aaron

TrackerOldGuy, I'm about to do the same job. If you have any tips when you're done, I'd appreciate it if you'd post them. Thanks, in advance!

Aaronb, I used the button and it did not sound or feel
like anything broke. However, I am confused as to why
just the steel pipe sticking out of the tank stops the flow of gas from the tank?

Curmudgeon ' I will have a bunch of suggestions and pictures in about two days. I'll do a new post for
"short shock install".

the reason the fuel doesnt pour out is that the fuel pump is in the tank on the other side of the fitting.
if you had the hose off the tank and the "wire" connected and turned the key on it would spray out of that metal fitting!
DO NOT TRY THIS!

just make sure you push the quick connect on until it clicks and
let me know if it still leaks when you put it back together.

I turned the bolt/nut securing the bottom of the shock around opposite from what it was. Now inserts from the left. Makes it much easier to get out for adjustments and cleaning.
