Hey gang, I'm starting to research new bikes...anybody ride any of the bikes listed below that can compare them to the new speed triple?

1. KTM Superduke
2. Ducati Monster, probably the s2r 1000 2 valve
3. 06/07 Tuono

I had an 03 tuono, I never cared for the looks/styling but the bike rocked as far as motor/handling. Parts were brutally expensive and sometimes hard to come by. I loved the bike but have to admit I was relieved when it went to a new home...Now I'm considering a new one, go figure.

Always wanted a monster, love the styling, like the 2 valve motor..I know it's way down on power compared to the other bikes on the list, but it's more than enough for me. I'm really starting to think I may finally get the monster I've always wanted.

I had a 98 t595, I liked the bike, but I wont go into the problems it had. Wound up trading her in on a 916..good move, the 916 was awsome...too costly to maintain though..another reason to go to the 2 valve.

I like the new s3..hope to snag a ride on one soon as my duc/trumpet dealer is having an open house soon.

Superduke may be a year or 2 away here in the states, but I hear it is worth the wait. Apparently she's a very nice package.

So many nice bikes, so little money.

Thanks for any advice.

Good luck finding a Tuono dealer that has/can get parts. The newest incarnation is definately a bad boy, but the reality of ownership is troublesome at best. Plus... $$$.

The Duc, ok ride, more $$$ pain in the rear maint. Can't touch the trip.

Don't know about the Super Duke.

Bang for the buck, ridability, costs, fun, looks etc. The S3 does beat them all. I was the naked of the year... Pretty simple.

Dang Geof, we didn't need to hear about that! But no, Geof is totally right(what he intended, anyways!), the S3 didn't get naked of the year from more than one magazine for nothing!

I compared the Duc with the Triple. I found the Ducati to have a more stable feeling and more responsive steering. It's a good looking bike, but I didn't like the small tank. I questioned the range of the bike. The motor felt smoother and sounds awesome with the stock pipes. However the smoother motor wasn't like the Speed Triple. I like having to hold the handlebars when I rotate the throttle. The Duc doesn't give you that feeling. There have been lots of comparisons with the Triple on various websites and magazines, with other bikes. They all say the Triple is the best for the fun factor and value. Good luck with finding something that encompasses all of the features that the S3 brings to the table. I don't think the Triumph excells in any given area, but collectively, there is nothing else on the road like this. But I will give the Tuono it's prop's for looks. It is pretty bad ass.

Best thing to do though is test ride at a dealership.

Hey gang, thanks for the replies..I actually don't care for the tuono's looks, but it's a bad ass bike..at least my 03 was..it was a wheelie machine..the lowend grunt was addictive..

The superduke really has my interest up..but I don't imagine we'll see any here in the states any time soon...sucks because I guess they've been available in Europe for a couple years now..

As I said in the original post, I didn't have very good luck with my t595..beautiful bike, but it was the 2nd year for that one..and it had problems..

My dealer (duc/triumph/ktm) does have the ktm 950 supermoto..it looks like a fun ass bike but that riding position (dirtbike) isn't comfortable for me...I need something with a little forward lean..

Oh well, thanks again for the replies.

i rode the superduke on a test day and it was awsome. the grunt was great and it tore round a short track more like a supermoto. brembo brakes are brill on it.
it looks weird though and it never grew on me.

but i went with the triple in the end as the looks are my cup of tea and the ktm's tank range is rubbish.
