Anyone changed their large original indicators for some smaller, more stylish ones? Do the aftermarket ones work ok - triumph use 12volt / 10 watt bulbs, but aftermarket seems to be 12volt / 20-23 watt. Can you just change the bulb, or do you need to amend or change something electrical - or do they just work anyway??!! What have you used to plug the holes left also?
Thanks for any replies,

DoctorW. :chug:

If you place the 20W bulbs there is a possibility you indicators stop working. In order to blink the indicator relays (solenoid) uses the P (Watt) from the lights.
With 10W per light (20W a side) the blinkers will flash approx every 2 seconds. 1 seconds on, next second off. If you replace with higher Watt bulbs the blinking rate will decrease or stop at all. With 2 20W bulbs a side the total load will be 40Watt (Watt) which is probably to high. I've got the opposite problem.

I'm going to change them with LED lights. LED light have almost no P (Watt) so they will be blinking like they are on XTC. In order to get the blinking rate down I'll have to place a load (resistor with a P of +/-10W).

Hmm, forgot to answer your question.....
I would advise to change the bulbs with ones with a lower Watt. I'm going to get some bolts with large heads to "plug" the holes.

newspeed3.com has some nice high end indicator options for the S3. The halogen ones (the ones I got) work fine and are about 1/3 the size of the originals. They blink faster, but you could put in a resistor to solve that. I don't have a problem with it personally. They also have LED ones that look the same... big $$$...

There is also an LED replacement kit for the tail that completely eliminates the rear indicators. The LED panel in the tail flashes L or R in yellow. Very cool. A bit pricy too, and a b!tch to install but works/looks great!!

I got a pair of Kellermann LED indicators from Wild Hair accessories and a pair from New Bonneville to replace the Watsen Design ones I had that could only be seen at night. They are expensive, at 75 per signal, but are very bright in daylight. The way to slow down Led's is to add 4 resistors, as covered in other threads on here. They look and work great.

The ones at NS3.com are Kellermans... Excellent lights.

seems like things are being made harder than they have to be....i just got turn signals from a harley dealer for a buell and they worked great...i have an 04 special edition and the larger yellow/orange signals stuck out something terrible. the ones i got from the harley dealer where about $6.50 or so each and for less than 30 bucks i got some great looking smoke colored signals. i even used the orginal wiring...just unplugged the wires from inside the stock signals and transferred them to the ones i got...only thing i would have changed was to get all four front signals as the stalk is shorter....but what i got worked...when there not being used they blend in much better with the all black look...now i just gotta get a high mount carbon fiber can...lol..they blink at the same rate the orginals did and if you didn't know you wouldn't guess the bike didn't come stock with them...as far as i can tell they are just as easy to see when used if not easier than stock as they blend when not lit up...course being used to an old sportster without signals i often use hand signals still in busy city traffic as i always assume that cagers either can't see me or just aren't looking..lol..i ride pretty defensively....
and by the way this isn't an orginal idea...got it from either this forum or another and its the cheapest change i know...

I had to put mini diamond shaped ones on when I changed to a high level can. Other than changing the ends to plug them in to the Triumph wiring, I've done nothing and they work fine.

The holes left aren't obvious as mine have virtually no stem on them. However, if your local bike shop has one of those Motrax stands with all sorts of ***** on it, there are some blanks you can use to cover the holes.

I changed the bulbs from the oem flashers into these and they are perfect, don't blow your relay cos they are pricey, my mini indicators

these are meant as show flashers only but they look and act OK
