Has anyone tried iridium plugs, was there any benefit. :???: Have been lurking for a while, had my S3 06 almost 2 months now and starting to think about TORS or Staintune exhausts. :-D

In some message boards, you'll find people who adore them with religious fervor. To hear them tell it, your horsepower will double, your teeth will get whiter, you'll be able to channel the wisdom of the space aliens, and your laundry will smell like an Irish spring... all as soon as you switch to iridium plugs.

I haven't used them, but know a number of folks who have, so my observations are only what I've seen of their bikes. It doesn't appear to me that they make much difference over the performance of a brand new conventional plug; but when compared to a plug with some miles on it, that's another matter.

The electrode shape is what enables the much-touted lower firing voltage, which makes little difference when the plug insulator is new and there are no deposits built up within the plug. It may matter more later, though. Conventional materials couldn't maintain such a shape very long under the rigors of combustion, so I believe that's where the iridium plugs' reputed advantage really comes from.

That's basically it. They will last longer, or so I've read. I have some to install, so I guess I'll find out.
