I am beginning a welding class this weekend and I'd like my in-class project to be a rear stand for my bike. I've found tons of examples of how to make a stand for a double swing-arm, but my '03 Triple is another story.

I was curious if anyone had attempted a project like this before and had the correct measurements? If not, what kinds of rear stands do you use?

Pitbull wouldn't require any welding, just a bender. If you had to weld on it, then build a standard double swing arm, and notch a tube that goes through the rear hub to stablize.

I like the Abba stand TripleThreat, but the supports look a little suspicious. I know it's only supporting about 150lbs through the triangle, and a weld should be able to take that, but I may engineer mine a little beefier. I love the idea though because it leaves the rear wheel area completely free.

With either this or the PitBull I would need to buy the ball-bearing frame (or axle) inserts to make sure they spin freely.

I finally finished my rear stand and I'll have to give myself a little pat on the back. I used high speed, large capacity bearings, 1/8" carbon steel piping, wheels that can take over 1000 lbs of weight, and wheel axles that can withstand even more than that in sheering forces. I'd put this up against a Pitt-Bull or similar stand any day. I'm not knocking those stands, but I did mine for $100 less and I think it's every bit as tough. Here is the finished product:

Here's what it looked like in it's raw form holding up the Triple:

And here's what it looks like now after it's been painted:

Good work Voodoo_chile. As well as saving $100 you have the satisfaction of having done it yourself. BTW the welds look good too.

I think you should sell those here. Id buy one for the right price. Better still, how bout selling the parts pre-cut and notched and ready to be welded. That would be easier to ship anyway.

I'd buy one if the price was right.
