Really pondering lately to ONLY ride on the track, I hate the commute to the twisties and then worrying about the man, cars etc...

Does the flyscreen help any?

What did you do for prep on the S3?

Im really thinking of getting a track only bike but still love the s3 and would hate to take the hit for a bike I have only had for 3 months.........So track the S3 or trade for 675 or other race ready bike.

I think I know what I want to do just looking for some ideas.

Fly screen... Not particularly helpful overall.

Prep... tire pressures, suspension. Twist and go...

The S3 kicks a$$ on the track. Stable and fun.

I wouldn't want it as a dedicated track bike, simply because it's too much fun everywere. If I were to do a dedicated track bike, I'd probably do an SV-650.

I will be getting my AMA licence this year and may begin racing if my budget allows. I know a guy that has a full race prepped gixxer 750, spare and parts for a STEAL... I don't know if I can talk the wife into it...

Either way, I'll be putting in some real track time on the S3 this season. Nothing beats "training" on the track. I'm even thinking of getting another set of wheels for a "track" set... Anyone have a set lying around?

Just use your S3 as a track bike also. Put some crash pads onto it (GSG for me, you never know  ) and some better springs (Hyperpro for me) and I guarantee you there will be lots of fun :-D

Here you can see the fly screen is a bit useful:

Tire pressure, I ran 32/35 on Pirelli Diablos and 34/36 on the Pilot Powers.

Racing fuel is awesome and it smells great.

I still prefer the SV-650 for a track bike.

I've done a few on mine, it's definitely a blast. Racetech'ed front end and Ohlins on the back, HH pads in front make a big difference. If your local track is high speed you may be wishing for some wind protection. As a matter of fact, it was wet at the last track day and I got to try out the sliders.

I just got back from a track day at Barber last weekend. For sure get some frame sliders (don't ask me how I know). I've got some from Skyking, mount in front of the radiators and in the rear axle holes. Ok, I'll tell, I lowsided (1st lap, cold tires, DUHHHH), the frame sliders saved the day. Only damage was to the clutch cover and muffler-and the rear set and rear brake lever was broken. But luckily Triumph had a big 18 wheeler there for a 600cc sportbike shootout Motorcyclist was having. They GAVE me a new rearset and brake lever. What a great bunch of guys! The S3 is a great bike track bike though. Handles great & I was leaving fully faired sportbikes behind on the straights. What fun!

Hi guys, I took mine to a track in Spain (AlmerÃ*a) and had great fun on it. I didn't change anything (apart from losing a little tyre pressure) and found that it was incredibly agile in the tighter corners, stable on the sweepers and fast on the straights. The cowl does take a little wind off you but is NOT a substitute for a full fairing. I'd just run the bike in so was not pushing it as hard as I might have done - but at 218 kilometres on the fast straight there was still some left in the engine but not much give left in my neck muscles! The post-05 S3 really does put a smile on your face and can defend itself well; however, I agree with you guys who say it isn't the ideal track-bike if you want to be REALLY competitive against experienced riders. A couple of R1s and MVs etc. cruised past me on the long straight... However, if you're not bothered about becoming the next Rossi and staying in front of absolutely everything, it's a great choice. I've not ridden the new 675, but friends tell me it's a superb track-day weapon. If I had unlimited cash I'd have one of each; as it is, I'll stick to the S3.

PS. Mad, I love the furry look of your rear tyre. Certainly keeps it warm!

Salty-

What track are you going to? I'm trying to find some "local" tracks (not that I'm going to run, but just to check it out)
