saying hello, been lurking for awhile. i had my midlife crisis last summer(40th birthday lol) and decided to get back into motorcycling after years away from it. did lots of reading and was really wanting a ducati s2r but the underwhelming performance and overwhelming service costs changed my mind. wanted to see a speed triple but the dealership in houston, british usa, didnt have one. i was ready to ride, wound up buying a new sv650 from a local dealer(live an hour outside of houston). i love the sv its a great bike, but i would love to add another to the stable in the future.

british usa now has a new blue and a new white s3, love that white! they are wanting almost $10,600 plus ttl but told me he could go down to 10,100 plus ttl. i dont think i would pay a penny over msrp plus ttl

the fact that im on my toes with both feet is also an issue, im only 5'6(maybe)

can anyone give me an idea of service costs on the s3?

great website, ive enjoyed reading and learning.

Don't buy a new Speed Triple! If you do, then that SV650 will just take up room in your garage and never be ridden again!

Seriously though, the service costs of a Speed Triple will be half that of a Ducati, and it's twice as long between services. Therefore, the cost of owning a Speed Triple is 1/4 that of owning an S2R. And it's more fun.

That price looks a little high, but it's only about $100 over MSRP. Call around. Even if you have to buy from someone half a state away it may be worth it just to ride it into your dealer and say "Hey! Look what I picked up for $9000!" Push. He'll come down.

Had a 01 SV650, put 48K miles on it and had zero problems. Excellent bike.
Currently have 16K on my 03 s3 and am very pleased with it.
Think you'd like the Triumph.
It may well be too tall for you, check it out.

The height or lack of it won't be a problem
I'm only 5'7" and just manage to make
contact with the ground! You'll be to busy
having fun to think about it!!!

Seriously I really only have a problem if I
park on a slope - have to either push it
around then get on, or get a push!!!!!
Either way it's a small price to pay for
happiness. :-D :-D :-D

The SV-650 is a great all around bike, it is also an awesome machine on the track. I truly do enjoy riding it.

The S3 is very similar to the SV handling wise, but it is got a lot more power. On a very tight road the SV is very hard to beat. If you can afford both keep the SV for trackdays.

Ton Up!

PS. Height should not be an issue I am only 5'9". I like the seat height of my 05 better than my 02. Perhaps is cause the saddle feels narrower.

Take Care!
