From Steve Phillips of Racecomp, on T595.net;

"Ok what will fit?

A Daytona and Speed Triple 97/01 frame will take a 02/04 motor also the new1050 05/06 motor will also fit. This works both ways a 1050 frame can have a Daytona motor!!

Differences between the two frames. The 02/04 frame has a center bolt hole for the tank and the 97/01 has the two lugs for the tank.
The 02/04 frame has a small lug at the bottom of the Swingarm bolt to mount the exhaust to, not important if you are using a light weight can.

1050 Speed Triple front and rear:

The rear wheel and Swingarm setup will fit all models Daytona and Speed Triple frames 97/04 no mods are required.

1050 Sprint front and rear:

The rear wheel and Swingarm setup will fit all model Sprint frames 97/04 no mods are required.

To fit a Sprint rear-end into a Daytona or Speed Triple frame. You will need to use the SSSA shocker and linkage for that type of frame.

1050 Speed Triple:

Complete front-end will fit all model frames 97/04 Daytona and Speed Triple, no mods required.

Speedo drive? The 1050 dose not have a front wheel speedo drive. You can modify the wheel to fit one easy enough, or you can use the front sprocket to pic up a signal like on the gsxr motors.

Wheel offset:

1050 Speed Triple rotors have a 135mm center to center this is 5mm more than any of the 97 to 04 Daytona, Speed Triple and Sprints wheels.
You can use the 02/04 5 stud rotors to fit the wheel to a standard 97/04 offset of 130mm

1050 Sprint front wheel rotor offset is 130mm that’s the same as all 97/04 models

1050 Sprint and Speedy wheels have gone to the bigger 97/01 axle size. Fitting the front wheel to a 02/04 Daytona or Speed Triple will require a change of bearings or a sleave fitted to the bearings to reduce the inside diameter.

1050 Speed Triples:

The subframe, seat, rear panels and tank will fit the early model frames no problem.

I will update this post when I have more time……. Just thought I’d keep you guys up to date with what you can do if you want to make your bike a bit different."

Oh, I didn't type it up. I just cut'n'paste it from T595.net.

Steve Phillips is the guy who should be thanked. He's Racecomp, the company that makes the ohlin's front fork swap kit for the S3/Daytona as well as ever little carbon fiber bit you could think of.

He's got a real frankenstein S3/Daytona. Its a 2002 Daytona motor, 97 frame, with 1050 rear swingarm and wheel with front and rear Ohlins shocks, and a 1050 flyscreen and guage cluster. I imagine he modified the 97 frame to fit the 02-04 fuel tank since the 97-01 has tabs which stick up.

http://www.t595.net/album/album.asp?...pg=1&img=29354

SO, any of you guys with T509 or 955i S3s who like the 05 tail, it is a direct swap! If you've got an 02-04 S3, even the tank is a direct swap! Oh, and if you happen to find a wrecked 05+, the entire front end is a direct swap as well...

The thing I REALLY like about the 'swapability' is that a 1050 motor will fit in my frame...

The thing I like is that if I ever got an '05+ I could put a fat ass 02-04 rear end on it! :-D

Actually, the T509 rear might look better with the smaller 05 tank.

I prefer the < 04 rear wheel. Are those a direct swap for the > 04?

Dwarf - MonkeyHanger has one on his 05. He didn't mention if it required any changes so I'll assume it didn't.

See pic in this thread:

You mean a T509 tail section swapped like this?

The swap is really easy. I'm repainting my extra tail section and SE tank to flat black with silver metalflake decals. I'm also eventually going to either get my frame powdercoated or Rhinolined. My Buell buddy said he's seen a few bikes with their frames Rhinolined and they looked great. Easy to clean, blacked out, and really durable. Plus, if you're into colored frames, they've got different colors available for Rhinoliner I guess.

In the end, I want my bike to look like this except with USD forks (later mod when I have the cash...);
