Can anyone with a 1050 S3 please confirm that the thicker washer under the main rear wheel nut is a) supposed to be split like a piston ring and b) it should be mounted with the wider edge towards the thinner spacer and wheel.

This pic on the old S3 wheel removal guide got me thinking as the washer on my bike is split on one point and mounted the opposite way to the guide:

Cheers, Martin_R,

Don't know if this will help, but here's a link to the page of the shop manual discussing the rear wheel:

Good luck!

Thanks. I guess "dished face outwards" means that the beveled side of the washer should be towards the nut.

However, the shop manual does not answer my second question: is the belleville washer supposed to be split at one point? On the shop manual and above image the washer seems to be a one piece design.

If anyone with a 1050 could take a look at the assembly, I would be grateful. The belleville washer is visible under the nut without disassembling anything.

Hey Martin,

I just checked mine and there is no break in it.

It seems unlikely that the break should be there as it could be inclined to spread and distort when the nut is being torqued to 147Nm.

I would be ordering a new one before the good weather arrives.

Cheers

Thanks. I ordered a new washer on warranty as the previous tyre changes have been performed by the authorized Triumph guys.

So if someone cracked the washer due to overtorqueing it was the guys I bought the bike from in the first place. My first bet would be some kind of material defect though, as I do not think a spring washer should crack that easily even under extra load.
