I have "Power Wheelied" when shifting hard into 3rd while drag racing. On the track, which is a little different than the street. The track is super sticky. Note that this isn't a "view the interesting clouds" kind of wheelie, but 3 to 6 inches of lift carried for a few feet.

A case could be made that clutch action is having something to do with this, but when I shift while racing I barely touch the clutch. Just enough to ease it into gear. Sometimes I don't use the clutch at all, but I haven't noticed a real difference in performance and I like to take it easy on the tranny. Next step: electric or air shifter.

Second gear power wheelies on the track are common. Not so much on the street.

Wow!

I only have 6 gears!

I know :-D
Just wanted to tell that my bike won't "power" wheelie without any effort in 4th. I can wheelie in 3th by using the clutch...but no way to "power" wheelie in 3th gear on my bike.
Are you sitting or standing up? I can only do 3rd standing up, the combination of the weight shift and the decrease and quick increase of acceleration around 6k RPM is enough to get the wheel skyward in a hurry.

Cover the rear brake just in case and be careful.

Do you use the left passenger peg when doing 3rd gear standups? I took the rear pegs off my bike but am considering putting them back on for this summer's wheelie practice.

Obtw, when I went to sit down for the Triumph demo pre-ride chat, I noticed a familiar face sitting right next to me.

Got to talking with Kyle Woods for about an hour after the ride about stunting and a whole slew of other stuff. Awesome guy, very friendly, and couldn't ask for a better person to lead the Triumph stunt scene.

Btw, the 675 is a killer bike... If I didn't have an S3, ST, and STI already on my plate, I'd love to slap down a deposit on a graphite gray or gold.

I never use the rear pegs they are way too high for my taste. Cool picture with Kyle Woods, I hope to meet him someday.

Later!

Alittle off the subject but what did you run at the track with the S3 crashmasterd?

My best 1/4 mile time was 11.33 at 117 MPH. Usually it's in the neighborhood of 11.5, but that's mostly me not riding consistently. My 60 foot times are really good, at 1.8 seconds regularly and a best of 1.76. 1/8 mile times are 7.3 to 7.5 seconds.

I'm eager for the season to start in April, because none of this is with the new Jardine silencers. I don't expect a big improvement, but I would like to get my consistent numbers down to 11.3 or so. I suppose losing 20 pounds myself would help.

Yes, that's a Trident in lane 1 getting a pretty good power wheelie.

Just be careful until you're used to it,almost did the Max Biaggi on mine first couple of try's.Getting better all the time once i get used to it.It doesn't make you a better rider if you can wheelstand,it's all about having fun.

Ouch!

Finesse is key! Be kind to your nuts, fork seals and steering head bearing.
