Hey guys, just wondering if a couple of ya' could shoot me in the right direction on where to get some tools! I just ordered my reversible pit bull stand today, finally!!! Now, I'm wondering where to get a socket to fit that big knarly nut on the rear wheel. I've got a 05, don't know if they were a different size earlier years or not, so any help would be appreciated. I'm thinking it's somewhere around a 46mm, but not sure. Also, anything else I'll need to remove the rear wheel? What other tools are helpful for this thing! It seems like everything on this bike is so different than the other's I've owned, so I gots to gets me some new tools! Also, if you know prices and don't mind, how 'bout listing the pricing as well. Thanks!

You can pick up the big sockets at sears if you are in a rush! as it will be standard size. your right about the 46mm check some of the ducati sites as well for the socket probably more available. For a big socket expect to pay $30-$45 you may even be able to find one on ebay I know there was a guy selling them for the ducs.

So do you use a standard size socket, Brettmess? If so, do you have any problems with it? I could probably find one of those much easier, that's a 1-13/16 standard, right? Just wondering if it fits the nut well. Don't want any problems with stripping or anything. Thanks for the info. Already found one on ebay for some Ducs, but he's overseas, and it would cost a bit to ship it to the states.

CB,

A 1 & 13/16" socket also fits if you can't find a 46mm (or it's silly $). You may also need a breaker bar or an air wrench...that biatch is on there tight from the factory. Here's an amusing little writeup of the removal procedure.

Havent taken the s3's wheel off but on my ducati its torqued to 186NM and I think the triple is torques ALOT less, but cant remmember as I havent had to take it off yet.

Yep you will need a breaker bar but i figured you already had one.

I have used the 1-13/16 before and it works fine. I have one if you cant find one and want to buy it. I got a 46mm since then.

The best way to take it off is get a friend or wife/girlfriend take it off the stand and have them apply the rear brake while you blow a nut trying to remove the nut. :hammer:

good topic.

Anyone know where I can get a PIN WRENCH that fits our top triple tree headstock thingamajiggy? I don't really feel like shelling $70 for the triumph tool, and guy at my shop said the correct size pin wrench can be had for $10. tia.
