OK-long story short- FOULED PLUGS!! Be careful when starting -do not open throttle!!!!

Bike runs good according to mechanic who put new plugs in it and reset the MAP with what he said was the latest settings called the "HIGH FLOW MAP" number 20702.
It is raining like a monsoon here now so maybe we will get to test "OLD WHITEY" in a day or so. This seems so simple and it of course was the riders fault (me)-stupid error. Live and learn. Somebody on the other thread got it right so all was not in vain/ Thanks for everyones concern and help. Sharing is good! Gotta go slip the weather man a few bucks and get this rain outa here.....

Great, glad to hear it's up and running again.....

but I thought you said you never got it wet by accident or on purpose?

So what was your stupid error? Why did it need new plugs?

My 05 S3 never failed to start but the first time I checked the plugs two of them were rusted around the outer body badly.
I have never washed the bike nor ever ridden in the rain. How they were exposed to moisture is still a mystery.
Glad you got your bike straightened out.

Uh, fouled plugs have nothing to do with water. The plugs were fouled due to trying to enrich (open throttle) an already VERY rich mixture for start up.

What is interesting Hi-vel is that your bike would ever start. If I even think of giving mine throttle at start-up it just dies, until it sorts for a couple of seconds and finds idle speed. Glad it wasn't serious. Should see some nice performance out of it. If they fouled enough not to start, they must have been pretty bad!!

I opened the throttle when starting and soaked the plugs in the combustion chambers with gasoline! They were fouled and wet with gas. Bike no run without spark!

I left my bike at the dealer for a week to get the first maintenance done and when I picked it up it wouldn't start. The plugs were fouled. I had never had any trouble with it and it started up immediately after we cleaned them. Our best guess was that they fouled the plugs bringing the bike out every morning and taking it in every evening. Apparently they start the bike, ride it 25 feet (about 10 meters for the euros) and shut it down...twice a day. I'm guessing that the guy that does it also guns the engine on every start up (he did when he brought my bike out to me). I hate that. It's a stupid habit. My brother (a harley rider) does it religiously and it drives me crazy. I won't let him start my bike.

Most fuel injection systems have a 'flood clear' if you hold the throttle wide open while cranking. The loop is usually activated with something over 80-85% throttle at below idle speed (cranking). This mode will reduce or cut off fuel delivery until the revs increase or throttle decreases. Not sure if this sysetm has it but might be worth a try if it does it again.

Same idea as carbureted engines. Anyone with a sled or a dirtbike knows that. Trying to convince someone to hold the throttle wide open to start a flooded engine is hard to do untill they try it.

I used to be a boat mechanic and would go to a customers dock and start the engine that wouldn't start so they pay me 2hrs road time and I open the throttle and off it goes.

also on the no throttle starts, If crack the throttle and close it immediatly it starts WAY faster than no throttle at all. I'm talking just a crack and as soon as it closes it fires up.

Considering the manual states a no throttle start-up, I'm sure there is some reason... :???:
