Comparing the two on paper, they look nearly identical. The monster is 17 pounds lighter and same on hp and 2 less on torque. clicky

Sure the brakes and suspension are higher end, but I think it is splitting hairs at that point. Perhaps I am just ignorant of the better components.

All that for 5k more US dollars. That's no small difference!

I am going to call to find out when I can test ride one all the same, better safe than sorry.

Click on the individual bikes at the top and it will take you to their detail. You can't see the hp / tq in the side by side view.

Triple is a better bike, period. Duke costs more, is ugly, looks just like any other Monster, will cost a fortune to service, will be fragile, no where near as much fun and not even close to the character we all love. No choice really, if you want the Duke go buy it and leave this forum to the people that love the S3.

>> I know what an S4Rs is and they are great bikes. I have 3 Duc's and love them to death.

>> I don't understand this routine service thing being a lot more than other bikes as the service intervals are fairly far apart and must service can be done by the owner of the bike easly. I mean for example S3 oil $13.00 per Quart!

>> With that said the S3 is the best Bike for the money and it is just the most fun I have ever had on a Bike. I love my S3 and would not trade it for a Monster.

>> Maybe I'll just buy an S4Rs and keep the S3.

Okay, I have to contribute. Great choices, great debate.

I had this debate a bit ago. My choices were a little more complicated though. S4R, S3, 06 ZX10R, Guzzi V11(cheap and modded cafe or Magni style), Factory, or a 998.

Well, I have a 929 so I still had the void for the cafe racer to fill. My final decisions were based on the S3 and the S4R. I loved the S4RS, but at a price in excess of $15k, I could not justify it.

With the S3, you have British Beef. You have reliablity and ease of maint. You have a distinct, "IN YOUR FACE" style and attitude. The thing is a wheelie machine and the sound is almost F1. I love the distinct whine and growl of the inline triple. The Triumph makes me want to get on the open road and get away.

The S4R/S4RS is Italian Passion. You have to give her more attention, more maint, and she is always asking for more money to go out and purchase that gorgeous purse and pair of shoes, uhhh, well, pressure plate and clutch cover. The style is brute cafe classic, and she will wheelie with ease as well. Maybe not as much as said S3 though. I love the dry clutch rattle and the shaking of that gorgeously pulsating L Twin.

Granted, the S3 almost has the Ducati S4R by 10 extra Bee Aitch Peas all over the uber linier power band.

I was on the verge of buying an S3, when the question was brought to my attention, "What bike could you keep for the next 10 years?" In all honesty, I would be more prone to being totally attached to the Italian Bird than to the British chic.

The Brit makes all the sense in the world in your mind, but I had to choose with my heart. I think I chose wisely.

But I still love the S3.

Panzerman88, what was the argument in brea? I have over 15,000 miles on my 2000 S3 and I love it. If I had to start over, the ducati is tempting, but think my first choice is the Triumph. I think in the near future I will try to get a new SR4 and of course keep the S3 FOREVER!
