Have you gone to SoCal Triumph in Brea. They have a yellow S3 on demo, that anybody with a valid motorcycle license can ride. They are also a Ducati dealership....

Thanks, I should hae something to say after this weekend. Have riden the MV Brutale and while I liked it again it has the inline four which I would like to get away from. Is that bike similiar to the performace of the Triple or am I trying to compare apples and oranges? Just trying to get ideas before I ride.

hey panzer, I don't see the Brutale being a great comparo. I've never ridden one, but my R1 didn't even have the torque down low like my S3 has, so very hard to compare the actual "fun factor"! Nothing I've ridden has put a grin on my face like the S3! No I haven't ridden any of the bikes that you're speaking of, but I've ridden some fast stuff(GSXR1000's, ZX10's, R1's, Busa's), and there's just something about this S3 that just makes me plum giddy! :-D

If you get the Ducati just be ready for some real educational Italian service charges-you wont believe how much they get for their routine services. Just a warning or maybe your wallet is substantial enough not to worry about it, More power to you!

Considering the $$ for the Duc, reality of the service deal of the Duc, the S3 wins it for me. You could put all the extra $$$ into the S3 suspension and still wind up a couple grand less.

When it's tire time for me, it's full suspension time as well. Ohlin's rear, new valving/springs in the front all for about 1200.00. Still put's the S3 in the 12,000 range given some other minor mods. Slap a power commander on, get it mapped out for about another 5-700.00 and you'll get the power and STILL be 2000.00 to 3000.00 up... And IMO as I had a hard-on for the s4R before I met the S3... The S3 has the S4r beat hands down on the style scale...

I just bought an 06 S3 and it is by far one of the most fun bikes I have ever had. I am 50 and the bike just "fits"perfect. This thing is a screamer, wheelie, and just ride around machine. The S3 is balanced and without the aggressive riding position you can do an all day ride with your younger buddies and not wear yourself out. When in doubt..gas it.

I am really looking forward to riding the bike this weekend!! Am interested to see how it handles and this unique 3 cyl sound all the Triumph guys talk about. Gotta admit though that nothing much, right now anyway, matches the dry clutch rattle and rumble of the Duc V Twin. We shall see. Thanks for the insights!

Hey Panzer, be sure to let us know what you think of the S3!!! Hope you get a good impression, she's kind of quite stock, but still has a decent growl to her! :-D

Service expense aside, I think this is a reasonable way to look at it. By upgrading the S3's suspension, one gets close to having a bike that's comparable to the S4RS. I've just ordered a Penske shock and will have my forks revalved when it arrives. However, when it comes time to sell the bike, I don't expect to get much of the $1,100 I'm spending on suspension upgrades back in incremental sales proceeds. On the other hand, since the Ohlins on the S4RS is OEM, the buyer of the S4RS will likely get back a good portion of the "S" premium when he sells.

But that's OK, I enjoy riding the S3 more than I've enjoyed riding any Ducati. That's more important than a few dollars here or there.

You are probably right especially if you consider that I will most likely not push the Duc hard enough to really put those upgrades to good use.
I assume the action of the Ohlins suspension is controlled and compliant, based on my past experience with Ohlins. Even if you aren't pushing hard enough to go faster, you'll likely appreciate the comfort and confidence provided by high end suspension.
