I purchased my 2003 S3 (new) last spring. I bought it in Chicago. Apparently it is a "California model" and has some kind of emission device that is evident by the extra hoses that are visible when the tank is removed. I have installed a TORS carbon fiber silencer as well as a K&N air filter. The dealership downloaded the new map. (This is when they discovered it is a "California Model".

My question is: Are there any kits out there to get rid of the emissions devices, and if so is it worth doing.

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you get a special map for the CA model and your TORS, then eliminating the air injector will essentially nullify the special tune. Eliminating the air injector may not significantly increase performance anyway.

What makes it a California model is the fuel vapor recovery system, if I recall correctly, not the air injection. I believe there are kits for removing it, but the only real benefit is a couple of pounds less weight.

So far as the fuel map, I would expect the startup routine to be a bit different, as the fuel injection would need to supply the enrichment necessary at cold start, to replace the fuel vapors that would otherwise be pulsed from the canister into the intake.

Thanks guys.

The bike runs great, so I think I will leave well enough alone.
