My new bike wont start! Was running fine and had set up for about a week. Took it around the block (cold weather) and put it on the OPTIMATE charger and next day (yesterday) it would not fire. Blew out the right headlight somewere in the process. Maybe before the non-start issue but I replaced that. I have checked all my fuses and looked at the on/off kill switch etc. ---- Smell gas. Is it totally flooded and plugs fouled -overnight? What is happening. Anybody got any suggestions? I hate to go to the dealer as they dont seem to know much and it is a real PIA to load and go. Come on baby fire !!!! HELP

So what's up Hivel? is it turning over fine, just not firing? Only reason I ask is because I've been having an issue with mine not wanting to start, but I think it may have something to do with the clutch switch. Mine won't do anything, but if I jiggle that safety switch for the clutch, it usually ends up working. Hoping to get mine to the dealer soon, so they can check it out, and replace whatever is faulty. I don't know what it could be with yours, if it's turning over strong and fine. I guess you could check your plugs, and make sure everything's alright there. Doesn't make any sense though, especially about the headlight thing and all. That sounds like something electrical, but then if you're smelling gas strongly, sounds like a fuel problem. I don't know man, but good luck!

Yes CB , my bike is turning over strong and all circuts appear to be working . I did not think it was possible to flood a CDI powered ignition that easily, usually they will fire most any rich mixture but maybe that is the deal?

Two easy things I can think of is the kickstand switch and vacuum in the gastank. Make sure the connector to the switch is connected to the switch. You can also disconnect the switch and use a small jumper wire to defeat it just to see if the bike will start.
Just open the gastank opening to check for vacuum.
You probably already know this but never give the bike any throttle while trying to start.

Captain Obvious says:

"If the bike is in first with the kickstand down, it will crank without turning over."

:-D

Daahhhh... My 03 doesn't crank at all with the kickstand down and in first. It especially doesn't crank when I don't have the clutch pulled in. If your does, something is very odd. Heck, most of the time I use the kickstand to cut the motor when parking.

I know, I know, "bad Robert, always use the key to turn the bike off."

ummm, correct me if I'm wrong guys, but what does the kickstand switch have to do with it? Hivel replied back to me and said the bike is turning over fine, just not firing. The bike wouldn't even turn over with the kickstand down and in gear, right? I thought it done nothing, just like the clutch switch. Mad might have something on the gas vacuum though. Might want to give that a check!

Hey Cheap, you might be right about the kickstand switch. I haven't actually tried it but that ***** switch drove me crazy on my Busa.
Everytime I hit a bump in the road the engine would skip a beat and then start running fine again. No big deal but if I was under boost the turbo would load up with raw fuel and then when the ignition came back on it would backfire vioently and shoot a one foot flame out the side of the bike. It took me a month to find the problem.

The darn kickstand switch is kinda burned into my brain.

My 02 will crank but not turn over if the kickstand is down and the tranny is in first. If later models won't even crank in the same situation, then yes the kickstand switch isn't the problem.

How will it crank without turning over?
