Ok, I was asked to post the pics I took of my convert and install of the Napoleon Bar End Mirrors on my new S3 SE.
Here she is stock. nice look, but at 6'2" all I could see was my arm pits.
First step? remove stock bar end weights. Right side came off no problem using a soft towel, WD40 and a large set of plyers. Left side wasnt that easy. I partially threaded in the retaining bolt and used that along with some vise grips and a strong arm, she eventually worked out without a scratch.
Now that those were out I removed the stock mirrors. Both came out easy using simple wrenches. Unfortunatly what they do leave is holes.
the right side actually holds the front brake fluid res. So I needed to refasten that down. This is where it is handy to have master machinists at your call and the machines to create a simple nylon threaded screw in about 5 minutes. :-D More on that later.
With that done its time to test fit the Napies. As I have seen stated a few times around this forum there is a small lip that runs around the bars interior and doesnt allow the mirrors to mount flush. Here you can see the gap the lip creates.
Solution? well the lip is small, a MM at best so you can shave the rubber Napolion mount down a little OR, cut the amount needed to mount the mirrors. I chose to cut, it was faster, and still leaves plenty of surface to mount properly. As of 300 miles they are rock solid tight....**note the slick looking nylon fastners!**
The final view. Mounted and ready! I can honestly say they work, vibration free and vision is great. Not to mention the compliments on how the mirrors flow with the bikes design, and style. total time? 45 minutes. Inclueding the picture taking. :-D
Any question you can PM here. Good luck guys and hope this helps!!
