Radar Detector Installation

Hi All, I am getting TPX 2.0 radar to replace my annihilated RX-65 on the old honda. I believe the TPX harness just connects directly to battery so no biggy, but I had a question about routing the harness.

Currently the loom and cables go through that plastic covers that sit on either side of the headstock between the frame tubes. Does the star headed bolt just behind the headstock hold all this in place or do you have to remove some other pieces as well?

Dont do it !

I would not recommend the TPX. I owned it and while it has some positive points like being waterproof and easy on/off the bike it has a glaring shortfall. Its K and KX range is woefully inept.

Stick with the RX65. Its much better unit.

I have this rigged on my GS with an Amplirider to hear voice prompts and alerts. I also have a visual alert. I also have a tank bag set up for the Triumph.

I have the TPS 2.0 and it has been fine. I routed mine under the tank, the left side, back to my accessory fuse box. I just fed it through with the other wires. A couple zip ties here and there to hold it in place.

LOL! I think I bought it from the fellow above! Heh heh.

To late :-) it arrived today.

I understand that the 2.0 version has much improved sensitivity. Ka band is the one that they us here on vehicles, I not too worried by speed cameras on K band.

The RX-65 was really good, but keeping it dry and wearing a wired connection was bit of a pain. I know you can go blue tooth.

So now just waiting on the mount to arrive and will fit it up, if my hand will allow it.

After a lot of shagging around try to fit the very large moulded plug through little gaps, I gave up and routed it and the visual alert cable through some black flexible cable conduit, out the side of the battery box, under the tank alongside the frame tubes. That'll do for now.

Pretty impressed with how bright the visual alert is, would be blinding at night, just as well it is adjustable! The unit itself it simple to work and the wireless audio alert just works out of the box.

Lets hope it picks up the fuzz, smokeys, old bill or whatever you call em

GasCan,
There should be a connection before the black fuse box you can disconnect. That's how I fed mine past the rad overflow.

Watching this thread with interest. The only ticket I've got on the S3 was from being shot in the back with a laser. Does anyone know if anyone makes a detector with a remote laser sensor that mounts on the back of the bike? My buddy has a BMW M3 with remote detectors front and rear. Jamming, too!

Check out this story from the Seattle Times about a guy who probably wishes he had had a detector:

Seattle Man Gets $1103 Ticket

Ouch !
How worried should I be about the cops in WA ?

Detectors and jammers are legal there ?

Although I don't know why I worry , Line-X is radar absorbent

Are you talking about the tpx harness? I will have to take another look, I thought that it was a fixed connection to the junction where the accessories connect to, anyway it is all in now so will save that job up for a rainy day.

Apdaptiv sell a laser jammer that connects to this system, but laser is not really an issue round here, so I won't be worrying about that. In saying that, there is a motorcycle cop that has a lidar who sometimes patrols my favourite roads.....

Just hoping it works as well as the rx-65 which saved me from numerous tickets.

The little bikini fairing is a problem as it interferes with the line of sight, and have to have the mount pretty much vertical so that the detector peeps over the top of it.

He is lucky, here 40kph over the limit is automatic licence suspension, so at 140kph about 85ish mph, you are toast. Also we have a demerit system, 100 points within 2 years and you are toast again, points start at 20 for less than 20kph over the limit and working up to 50 for 35kph over the limit.

Jammers are illegal here too, 25 points off for that.
