if your bike is only running on two cylinders what are the tell tale signs? How noticable is the loss of power? Does it run rougher? Vibrate more, loss/gain in fuel effeciency, etc........
Just wondering.
Thanks.

Well, I would think the bike wouldn't become unbalanced or vibrate any more since all three would still be moving. But, the sound would change quite a bit and the power loss would be significant.

Yank a plug and find out. If the engine runs poorly without the plug then that cylinder was firing, if it runs exactly the same you found the bad cylinder. By the way, don't yank the plugs by hand without some really good insultion or you'll get the carp shocked out of you. You can turn off the engine, yank the plug and try starting it again. It probably won't start if the cylinder was good but if it does start and runs as well as it was, that's the bad one.

When its cold start it up and feel the header tubes. If you have a bad hole that header tube will be significantly cooler. Be careful though, they get hot fast.
Why do you ask?

My bike seems to be running rougher, sounds a bit different, and doesn't seem to have the "effortless" punch at the moment. I was trying to think about what it could be, besides the most likely answer, which is that it's in my head.

It happened on my '99 due to a faulty coil. Surprisingly, it wasn't that much rougher. It would run but had no get-up-and-go. Very definitely not right in the power. I didn't ride it like that long enough to assess fuel efficiency, etc.

I am not sure about the Triumph , but some times ignitions
can be damaged if the plug wire is not grounded while you are testing.
I approach it two ways. Connect a timing light
( powered by a battery other than the bike's) to the plug lead to see if you are getting spark. Check the pipes
( I use my IR thermometer ) to see if it is getting enough
gas and spark to light off that baby ( adjacent cylinders
may raise the dead cylinder temp up to areas like 180
but not the 240 the good ones are running at--they all should be pretty close especially on a water cooled engine).
