The National Transport Commission of Australia has produced a report saying lane splitting is dangerous and the various state Governments over here are acting on it and are in the throws to ban the practice.

I amongst others (a few thousand) hit the roads in protest.

Thought you might like a look.

Hey Sparti,
was that you one on the blue 1050? I was the one on the blac one with the single pipe. Christ, that was a boring ride, huh?

I have been following this on www.netrider.com.au and hope we get these done regularly until we get a decision in our favour.

You're not wrong there. I don't think its ever taken me that long to ride the Eastern Fwy. I hate being amongst the traffic (cars).

If you haven't seen it i can send you the latest media report from the a MRRA.

Wow,

That appeared to be extrordinarily helpful!! :hammer:

So, pissing off a bunch of cagers is supposed to be a GOOD way to get a point across? I would think a better display could have been had. Maybe I'm the only one here, but to me you all just made yourselves look BAD in the public view...

Good luck though, with your cause. I think it's just, but could be fought a bit better IMO...

My view is there is two seperate issues.

1. Trickling- Moving past stationary vehicles. Stationary due to red lights and traffic.

2. Lane Splitting- Passing moving vehicles and sharing the same lane space at the same time

1. Trickling - Should be legal. There is only one moving vehicle. It reduces risk for everyone and lessens congestion and environmental impact . Its not our fault stupid tin tops cause the gridlock.

2 Lane Splitting - should be illegal . No two moving vehicles should be side by side. This meets %%^& 4wd and harley riders do not cross the line in any direction becasue they are to stupid to control their vehicles. No mater how much control you haveyou can be garenteed these morons do not have any. The rules need to work both ways if the cannot be in our space we cannot be in theirs.

As for staging rallies that casue the tiny tin top brains to explode. That just causes more grief for everyone. There are better wasy of getting the message accross logically and rationally

Well done boys! The fact that you got up and made a statement is highly commendable - after all that's what a democracy is all about. The French did a similar thing when the Paris Government said no parking on the sidewalk/pavement for bikes - so thousands of bikers, mopeds, scooters, what have you, got up early and parked in the carparks and meter spots, one per space - therefore no room for the cars, Paris came to a halt. The powers that be succumbed to the logic and things went back to normal. Lane splitting is only dangerous when both cars and bikes behave like morons - using mirrors and looking before a maneuver and some simple good sense - ie what most people have forgotten, driving with care and concern for others. Hope you can thwart the nonsense. :-D

You are right Tripcyl.

The City of Melbourne allows motorcycle parking on the footpath (sidewalk/pavement). They tried to take that away several years ago. Hundreds and hundreds of bikes flooded the city on a specified day and occupied every car parking space, moving on mass to another space as time limits expired. Citizens who could not find a parking space were furious....Chaos. We had our footpath parking back in short order.

The same type of action, even if it antagonises Joe Citizen is necessary to make the beaurocrats take notice. It was probably some small minded beaurocrat, stuck in traffic on the freeway, jealous of bikes filtering between the lanes, that came up with this bonehead proposal anyway. A proposal that has absolutely no statistical evidence to support it.

If we make some protest that does not interfere with the orderly lives of citizens, do you think it will be seen on the news. Not a chance. And another thing, this type of protest indicates what will happen if bikes can't lane split.....traffic congestion will get a little worse.

:asb: I'll get down now.

IMO you are flat wrong and your description of lane splitting is not how it really works. I commute across the Golden Gate Bridge and through San Francisco every work day and lane splitting is safer and faster than the alternative, whether on the freeway, the Bridge or the city streets.
