Now we all (I'm assuming) get our pretty, new, better sounding exhaust and just slap it on then forget it. But when should you repack (if able)? How many miles should you allow to go through an aftermarket pipe before you freshen it up. Also, how do you go about removing the rivets? Anbody have experience with this? I'm sure just getting a new can/s would be a quick (and expensive) fix, but what if you like what you got? Anyone want to take this one.................

you remove the rivets with a drill bit that is not much bigger (if at all) than the holes that are already there. You dont want to make the holes very much bigger than they are. Then you need a cheap pop rivet gun to put them back. I just drill the heads off then tap the rivet through with a punch so I dont actually drill the hole any bigger. Ive always wanted to see if I could get some small nuts tacked on to the inside of the can so I could replace the rivets with small allen head bolts to make the next repack easier. I would also like to experiment with different packing material to try to achieve different sounds.

Thanx H.M.J.! Would you happen to know where I could find a cheap riveter? Maybe for this specific task?

I've repacked my TBR can twice, and it's very easy. Two Brothers sell a repack kit for 19 bucks, that comes with packing material, rivets and a drill bit the correct size.

Same here, the TBR was a snap. Highly recommended!

A decient rivet tool is about ten bucks.
