Well here are the facts at least for me anyways.

Stock (stock pipes and map with about 1400 miles on odometer)= 107.8 HP (sorry no torque figure done)

bike with Triumph off road pipes (TOR's) with stock map, with about 1925 miles on odometer= 113.9 HP and 64.3 ft/lbs of torque.

bike with TOR's and Triumph performance map, with about 2000 miles on odometer= 118.0 HP and 66.5 ft/lbs of torque.

last two mods of pipes and pipes with map were done on same day.

just to compare with magazine "stock" results:

Performance Bikes 6/05 (England) got 113.67 bhp and 70.06 ft/lbs

Two 8/05 (England) got 116.9 bhp and 73 ft/lbs

Motorcyclist 9/05 (USA) got 119.8 HP and 73.4 ft/lbs

Sport Rider 12/05 (USA) got 118.1 HP and 70.9 ft/lbs

Well I must say that I was hoping for more, but i have to figure that the magazines probably get strong bikes. And who knows one of us might come away with a strong motor too. It is all just a roll of the dice.

Back to my results. If anyone is curious about doing the TOR pipes, it is well worth it. The sound is awesome. I would absolutly recommend the map along with the pipes. I rode the bike with the pipes for a while without the map and it ran rough and the rideability suffered. It also exagerated the off idle sudden-ness that drives me batty. I love the bike with the map and the pipes. it is absolulty peppier and more fun to ride.

I was told a one less tooth (17) countershaft sprocket will make this bike come unglued. I will probably try it when I am due for a new set of sprockets and chain.

I will also consider a Power Commander and a custom map for my particular bike and local ambient conditions. It will cost about 500 dollars.

Hope this helps and if anyone else is considering a dyno run. Go for it, its a blast. Ride safe.

Sorry, but i do not know. i like the sound of the stock pipes but i did want a little more meat to the sound, and this has it. i would have loved a set of carbon fiber or titanium pipes but love the look of the Triumph ones. i hope Triumph does a set of Ti or CF but who knows?

i live in an area where i can get away with the off-road pipes as far as emissions go. Also they go on and off in a snap and if need be i can put back to stock in about a half-hour if i need to for emissions check. Any way it is louder but not obnoxiously so. I guess you might have to listen to one to know for sure but i think you'll love it.

Man, I seriously hope your bike's power continues to improve as you get more miles on it because my 03 955i got 113hp and 69ft lbs on the dyno with the CF high mount, K&N, and just a fuel remapping.

thanks for the report! The stock # is disappointing, but I've heard one or two others report close to that also. Makes you wonder how they get some of these #'s in the magazines. I could see a fluctuation of maybe 5hp either way on different bikes, but over 10hp? It's good to see someone post this that all runs were on the same dyno, and 2 of the runs on the same day! I'm hoping that's atleast where I'm at(around the 118-120 range), because I have the TOR's with the remap also. I would really hope for more around the 125 range, but 120 is respectable! Maybe I can swing a dyno run before long just to see and compare. Thanks again for the info!

Kuhlka,

my butt-dyno still thinks my '03 955 was faster so the power comparisons dont surprise me. 1/4mi times indicate this as well, i was significantly faster on the 03 (11.2ish compared to 11.5-11.6 with th 05). I think for one, the ECU was better tuned prior to 05. I label the '05 tuning 'crude at best' unfortunately there is no good way to correct that. I get TERRIBLE mileage too, compared to the 955, like a 10mpg drop. I might throw my Wide Band 02 sensor in there and data-log some runs to see what is actually going on.

Thats a pretty good bump in HP though for pipes.

TOR's are not too loud. definatly streetable no prob. There are plenty of louder pipes/bikes out there. I'd guess ~90 Db (sound is funky though so even with a hard number for Db's its pretty useless, depends on so many other factors... distance, frequency...) or so at cruising RPM.

Chris

Man, and I was seriously considering trading up to an 05+ too. If none of you guys come back with numbers showing a big bump up in torque, I'm not going to be trading in anytime soon.

I'm going to get a dyno run in this spring with the sprocket swap so I can see if the rear wheel power changed much. My butt dyno tells me I'll see at least a 10ft lb bump up and about the same drop in hp, but we'll see. All I know is that the 17/45 sprocket combo is sick for acceleration. 18/45 was nice, but 17/45 is just siiiick. Stock gearing is just too tame for my tastes. The only downside is that the lower gears get meaner and twitchier on the throttle so slower riding becomes easier, but jumpy.
