i had a passport for one of my cars and it worked great. i guess for a bike mounting would be the main issue.

I just ran across this Heads Up Dsiplay Unit this morning...

See this post... clickety... click...

Integrating your radar detector with one of these would elimiate the need to be able to see the radar detector and would free up some additional mounting points...

Best one made is the Valentine One-they have a bike earphone adapter you can get and the mounting is up to you-there are specialty companies that make mounts for handlebar and fairings-look in the classifieds in the back of the cycle mags, none of these things are waterproof-I used to use a plastic bag and a home made mount on mine and it worked great. Some guys used to put them in their tank bags and they worked fine. I question the value of one on my present machine-bikes are hard to pop with either radar or laser and usually the cops wont even bother to chase you because of your obvious advantages -HOWEVER, sometimes these little jewels are worth their weight in gold. Ask me how I know that!!!
Get a good one and mount it securely-use an earphone and you will be OK.

one thing you might consider though. here in VA(and i assume other states where detectors are illegal) it's not so much of an issue but elsewhere most police are upgrading to instant on radar with is impossible to detect. basically the gun is not shooting radar until it has a target so there's nothing to detect unless somebody is getting shot. therefore a radar detector is useless unless you have people in front of you.

I use a Passport 8500 with an Escort external speaker. (Avail from Escort for $35) Works great and you can't miss it at speed because the speaker is LOUD. Volume is controled by the main unit. I also have an instant mute button on the handlebar.

No problems here, my radar is built in, when the eyes see the fuzz, the hand starts to buzz! twist that throttle and spray if you got a bottle! :-D

My opinion Radar detectors are a waste... Instant on has been around for years.. If they want you they WILL get you  A fun gadget though

I've got to disagree with you there. I've been using a radar detector in my cars for almost 20 years (gulp). Even with the advent of instant-on, police seem to be very lazy and just leave it on anyway. They are not a waste. If that detector saves your butt once or twice that thing has paid for itself.

I haven't had a ticket in at least 7 years. Part of it is having a good detector, part of it is sheer luck, but the biggest part is knowing the roads you drive and where they hide.

However, you're right, if they want to get someone they will.
