Hi All,
Not wanting to sound like a total moron but how easy is it to take the fuel tank off?
Brought the bike from Jack Lilleys custom painted Triumph Graphite but they put 2 ***** stickers on tank & seat cover then lacquered over them { bastards } so i have found the place that sprayed it and they are going to remove them.

Cheers Paul

Just removed mine yesterday. It is easy but there are some things to be aware of.

1. Have a friend help.
2. Have some rages/towels handy.

Note: Disconnect the battery before beginning!
Note: Run the fuel in the tank as low as you can to reduce weight.

3. Remove the front bolt and metal washer holding the tank in place
4. Remove the rear bolt and nut
5. Lift the front of the tank up and remove the mounting rubber gromit so it does not fall off and get lost.
6. Lift the rear of the tank and have your friend place a rage/towel over the tank monting bracket. Set the tank back on the frame.

Note: On the 2005/6 S3 there are 3 hoses and one electrical connection on the bottom of the tank. One hose is for gas and the other two are venting hoses. The electric connection is for the fuel pump. Before having the friend lift the tank, have masking tape and a marker ready so you can mark one of the venting hoses so you don't get them mixed up when you reassemble.

7. Have your friend lift the tank up while you remove the 2 venting hoses (marking one of them so you know where it belongs) Do this while you stand on the left side of the bike. (The side with the kickstand.) Your friend should be on the right side of the bike.

8. Now locate the push button on the fuel line, push it in and pull the fuel line off of the pipe. (When you reassemble the fuel line you will know it is fully seated when it clicks into place as you push it back on. Push hard!)

Note: Set the tank back on the motorcycle so you and your friend can move to the opposite sides of the bike. (Keep the towel in place over the rear mounting bracket to prevent damaging the paint when you set the tank back down)

9. Have your friend lift the tank again and you can locate the electrical connection on the right side of the tank. The electrical connection has a tab on the bottom of the connector that must be pushed up while you pull on the connector. Mine was hard to disconnect. Do this from the right side of the bike. (The side without the kickstand)

Note: Before removing the tank be sure you have a place to set the tank on. I suggest using some towels on the workbench or floor to prevent any damage to the tank.

You will now be able to remove the gas tank. And assembly is in the reverse order.

Good Luck!

:-D
