Greetings all

Well a mate and I just took the plunge on Saturday on the new S3s. As rare as they are in Oz we managed to score two that were in stock at Mat Mladins south of Sydney. It appears that two people had put money down on ordering them in and pulled out. Lucky for us! I got the black and my mate got the yellow. We pick them up mid next week. Now if I can just sleep until the time comes. I tell ya there is nothing like the barginning power of a group purchase. We got great trade-ins on our current bikes and teh saleperson, Daniel, was great to deal with.

I'm coming from a K5 SV1000s that I got last April. I quite loved the engine in that bike, but the rest let me down on any prolonged rides. Since I'm 6'2" the S3 seems to fit me so much better. I did have a difficult decision between the S3 and the new Sprint, but I'd like to think I made the right choice in the end.

I just wanted to introduce myself and say G'day. We'll post some pics next weekend when we can.

cheers
Zurgg

Congrats to you and your mate. You're going to love the bike. I've been fully consumed by mine since Oct last year. Its not missed a beat. I only wished my mate would get one.

Make sure you frequent this forum. This site is invaluable to Triumph owners. I'm sure you will have lost of questions once you get your bike. Only a few more sleeps to go.

There seems to be an awful lot of Aussies on this site.

I'm not complaining.

There's also a lot from my part of the world, but we don't have a recognizable nickname.

Welcome to the fold, my brethren from Oz. Waiting until you get the thing isn't half as bad as breaking the bloody thing in.

I ordered my S3 in mid September last year and was told earliest delivery would be April. With a lot of fellow Aussies getting their bikes in under 2 months (or one week!) I suspect I've been had.

Hey Crash,

We can give you one if you want..... a nickname that is, but if you know the Aussie reputation for taking the p*ss, it may not be exactly complimentary......

hahaha!

Cheers mate

Thanks for the welcomes all. I've been lurking at this site since late last year. It sure seems to have heaps of good info and help

Well I really loved the engine and gear box. I installed a TRE (removes the retardation of low gears so you get full power from the go) and it was even stronger. I did, however, hate the suspension and riding position. I suppose I should have purchased the SV1000 nekkid from the go, but the look did nothing for me. I really like most of the SVS that I had, but anything over 45 mins started to really wear on me. It got to where I just did not look forward to riding with mates. I'd often go meet someone who lives in Camden and coming from the North Sydney area I would be rooted by the time I got there. Let alone be able to ride through the back of Picton, Wollongong etc. I guess it comes down to me liking the SV, but not loving it. I sure hope that is not the case with the S3! I imagine I'll spend heaps of time just standing in the garage looking at it

IC, you should get a plane ticket to Sydney mate. I know that of last Friday (20-1-06) there was a white 06 S3 in the shop at Procycles in Hornsby. Good service and dealers there. You could work in the bike on the way home!

However, if I wanted a different colour then what was available I was looking at near 2 months to order one in. However, Sept 05 to April 06 is a joke. Someone is pulling your chain or they are bringing it over one piece at a time on a container ship.

cheers

Hey Zurgg,

Welcome! We had 3 S3's along for a ride through the nasha on Saturday and lunch at Austinmer.

Keep an eye out on the forums, I think a full day ride is needed and the more S3's the better.

Cheers,
bundo

My fiance has the 05ST and is very happy with it. It definitely doesn't have the same guts as the S3 when compared stock, but I'd be willing to bet its got some serious fire just waiting to be unleashed with a dyno mapping and a mild sprocket change. I got hers up to 155mph, though it took a while even with the fairing. The ST handles stupidly well though in the twisties and it'll cruise at 80mph in a 55 without me even realizing how fast I'm going. The thing just dives into curves effortlessly.

The S3 will definitely have a lot more grunt though and be a more upright and comfortable ride, even for long distance touring. I find the ST seat a bit stiff and the clip-ons a bit low for my taste as it kills my back after a half hour to hour of riding, but otherwise the bike is great. You'd probably love either choice. Congrats on the S3.

Zurgg, welcome! Bundo is right, three of us went for a shortish ride last Sat through the park, a nice sedate ride, but fun, nonetheless.

At last count there are now about 7 Speed Triple riders on this forum who are in Sydney
Zurgg
Zurgg's mate
Bundo
Bundo's neighbor (who's probably still lurking :-) )
VB-SP3 (Vic)
Cruncher
Miker

Plus an assortment of others from other states. Then there's quite a large assortment of others who ride Tigers, Sprints and Bonnies.

You're in good company!

Mick
